WAXING CONTRADICTIONS REGARDING MEDICATIONS

If you are currently using any of the following prescription medications, you cannot receive a waxing service.

☆Accutane: You must be off this medication for
a minimum of one (1) year prior to waxing.

Discontinue use of these medications for a minimum of three (3) months prior to waxing.
•Accutane (Acne medication)
•Adapalene (Acne medication)
•Alustra (Retin A)
•Avage (Acne medication)
•Avita (Retin A)
•Azelex (Peeling agent)
•Clindamycin
•Differin (Acne medication)
•Doxycycline
•Erythromycin
•Isotretinoin (like Accutane)
•Madifloxicine
•Metronidazole
•Renova (Retin A)
•Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)
•Tazarac (Acne medication)
•Tazarotene (Tazorac)
•Tetracycline
•Tretinoin (Retin A)

USE EXTREME CAUTION:
If you are using any of the following products, THEY can make your skin more sensitive.
Thin, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to lifting and sensitivity during waxing.
(Other acne medications not listed above)
•Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)
•Oral Antibiotics
•Topical Antibiotics
•Retinol
•Salicylic Acids
•Any acid based products
•Harsh exfoliants

When to use caution with waxing

WHEN TO BE CAUTIOUS:
•You’re pregnant, taking birth control, hormone replacement, or antibiotics. Your
skin may be more sensitive to waxing, best to have a patch test 24 hours before
getting waxed.
•Smokers or those with Rosacea. Waxing can irritate dilated capillaries (weak or
broken blood vessels) which are common with smokers or people with Rosacea. If
the capillaries are very red, stay away from waxing that area.
•You take blood thinners, have diabetes, phlebitis or want post-cancer hair growth
in the side-burn area removed. These all relate to medical conditions and your
client should get a doctor’s approval before waxing.
•The use of powerful exfoliators on your skin such as salicylic, alpha-hydroxy acid.
•You use any product with white willow bark. White willow bark extract and
enzymes all strip cells from the skin. It is too much exfoliation combined with
waxing and could make the skin red, bleed or even lift and turn scabby.
•You recently consumed a lot of caffeine. This stimulant in your system can cause
skin to be extra sensitive to waxing … meaning you could get more red or
inflammed than usual.
•Drinking alcohol the day of or the night before waxing. Alcohol causes the blood
to rise to the surface of the skin and can cause the skin to bruise easily.

THESE PRECAUTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD ALWAYS BE
FOLLOWED:
•You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before waxing after a light chemical
peel or microdermabrasion
•No waxing if you have had a laser skin resurfacing within the past year.
•No waxing if you have had a physician administered peel within the past two (2)
years
•Women may experience extra sensitivity to waxing up to a week prior to the
beginning of their period
•pregnant women can be more sensitive
•No waxing on sunburned skin
•No waxing on irritated areas

THESE FACTORS ARE KNOWN TO MAKE WAXING MORE PRONE TO “SKIN
LIFTING”
•Taking blood-thinning medications
•Taking drugs for autoimmune disease •Medications for Lupus
•Taking prednisone or steroids
•Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases
• Recent cosmetic or reconstructive surgery
•Recent laser skin treatment
•Severe varicose leg veins
•Rosacea or very sensitive skin
•History of cold sores or fever blisters (waxing can cause a flare-up)
•Clients with genital herpes (waxing can cause a flare-up)
•Using hydroquinone
•Recent surgical peel, microdermabrasion or chemical peel using glycolic, alpha
hydroxy, or salicylic acid, or other acid-based products

So you just got a wax....now what?

Waxing aftercare

Follow the guidelines below to ensure your skin is cared for properly over the next few days.

**Please note: some slight soreness, small bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly if this is your first wax. These symptoms should subside over the next 24 - 48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours.
This means:
No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only).
No saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments.
No tanning (sunbathing, tanning beds or fake tans).
No sports, gym works or other exercise.
Avoid scratching or touching the treated area with unwashed hands.
Wear clean, loose fitting clothes.
Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.
Do not apply deodorants, body sprays, powders, lotions or other products to the area, other than those recommended.

To soothe and protect the skin, apply NO TRAUMA MOMMA to the waxed area regularly for up to 3 days following your treatment. ALWAYS wash your hands before applying any product.
To prevent ingrown hairs: starting a few days after your appointment and then continuing a couple of times every week, exfoliate the areas you get waxed using a exfoliating mitt or SCRUB ME LUSCIOUS LEMON DROP .

Moisturise every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally. Don’t exfoliate too much or too rough as this can graze the skin and cause ingrown hairs. If you do notice ingrown hairs you can use GET THE BUMP OUT OF HERE daily for prevention or as a spot treatment.

You may notice a small amount of re growth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives best results.

You will need at least 2-3 weeks growth of hair before it can be successfully removed by waxing;
Please do NOT shave between your appointments.
To maintain your smooth appearance, I recommend regular waxing every 4-6 weeks

Thank you for choosing me for your waxing service!

Amika "vault" shampoo & conditioner + fadeblock

Amika has great products all around but they have their "VAULT" line of color safe products that are amazing. Their shampoo and conditioner helps preserve your color, filter out uv rays, and provide the hair with healthy antioxidants. HOWEVER their 3rd color protect product is my FAVORITE! "Fadeblock" is a pre-shampoo color sealer that you apply to damp hair for 2 minutes before shampooing and conditioning as normal. This helps seal that color in for an additional 10-12 washes.

Oooooor.....that means you can use sliiiiightly warmer water when shampooing 😉

Aftercare Instructions

Brow lami aftercare

For the first 24 hours, you should treat your brows with care, avoiding getting them wet, steam baths and saunas. After this time, you can treat them normal, simply brushing into place every morning with a spoolie.
You can get extra time out of your lami by moisturizing those brows nightly with a brow oil (such as Castor oil)

(Same aftercare essentially as a lash lift. See below)

Lash Lift/tint Aftercare

The great thing about a Lash Lift is that it is a very low maintenance procedure however, there is a little extra care required over the first 24-48hrs.

Be gentle with your lashes; no rubbing.

Do not get your lashes wet for the first 24 hrs.

Do not use harsh products on your eyes/lashes.

Use of Sauna/Steam is possible after 24hrs but may weaken the effect of the lift.

No eye make up for 24 hours.

Avoid waterproof mascara’s.

Swimming should be avoided for at least 24hrs.

Perm aftercare

Wait 48-72 hours before shampooing your hair. You may wet your hair with a spray bottle, or
scrunch with water. After the waiting times are up you may shampoo regularly for your hair type
(remember to think of your hair as curly and chemically treated).

Do not stand under a shower head for 48 hours. This will weigh down the crown area of your hair
and pull the curl out or relax the curl.

Avoid getting into a swimming pool or hot tub for 7 days. Chemicals in pools, hot tubs will change
the chemical structure in your hair, even if you do not plan on getting your hair wet the heated water
evaporates and the condensation contains chemicals that will go absorb into your hair shaft.

Do not brush or pull hair for 24-48 hours. Use a wide tooth comb or pick to untangle your hair.

Do not use a flat iron, curling iron or blow dryer for 48 hours. The heat will open up the cuticle and
relax your curl. Use a towel scrunching method to dry your locks.

Avoid coloring your hair for 3 to 7 days.

Straightening treatment aftercare

Do not wash hair for 3 days (72 hours) from when you leave the salon. Iron your hair once a day over the next 72 hours.

Avoid getting any moisture in your hair for 3 days. If your hair does get wet during that time blow dry immediately and go over with flat irons as the keratin is still processing for those 72 hours. Same process when you shower, try to wear a shower cap. Wear hair down for the 72 hours, do not use pins, clips, ponytail and avoid putting you’re hair behind your ears as much as you can. Do not use any dry shampoo or styling products.

If necessary to wear hair pinned back for work pin back lightly with a thick hair tie (scrunchy) and flat iron at the end of the day.

Use shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate free.

Give your hair a 7 day break in between color and keratin.

Take care when swimming in a pool or ocean, wet your hair with fresh water and apply conditioner to protect hair from salt or chlorine, after swimming we strongly suggest you wash your hair with after care shampoo and conditioner to eliminate salt or chlorine build up.
