About

Metalcore with a conceptual twist

From the darkest abyss; dragging new and old souls with them, 'To The Depths' re-joined the land of the living. Resurrected to continue The Survivor’s story, 'Oceans and Omens' was born.

Washing up on the shores of Perth, Western Australia, and Mission Beach, Queensland, following the carnage that was 2020, Oceans and Omens is a five-piece metalcore band comprising: Sean O’Brien (vocals), Rowan Leah (lead guitar), Aaron Ganley (rhythm guitar), Nathan Menage (bass), and Kieran Wallace (drums). They blend quintessential Australian old-school and modern metalcore sounds with an epic narrative of life, death, vengeance, remorse, and the cunning that lies beneath the waves.

After releasing their debut single Deliverance (March 2021), and their debut EP, I: Descent (June 2021), Oceans & Omens have hit the ground running. They received air play on national, metal radio station, The Faction, playing alongside newcomers Our Demise, scene heavy weights Patient Sixty-Seven, and supporting Perth metal legends Paradise In Exile. Oceans and Omens are only beginning to break the surface.

Concept

Welcome to the abyss

Loss. Betrayal. Survival. Vengeance.

Our music immerses you in a world of conflict between gods and men, demonic uprisings, and quests for retribution and salvation.

Our EP I: Descent is the first chapter of The Survivor's saga. Lost at sea and torn from his beloved, The Survivor is drawn into the ocean's crushing black abyss.

Trapped and breathless, death's embrace is kept at bay by nothing more than willpower and burning rage. Fuelled by hatred of the deity who ignored his cries for help, he drifts on currents unseen in a depthless void. Sinking deeper, ever deeper.

Undying, trapped by the crushing pressure, The Survivor ponders eternity. Abyssal vibrations from below remind him that the ocean's deepest chasms are dark and full of terrors...

The story will continue...

    Vocals - Sean O'Brien

Not bad for a trombone geek. Sean learned to scream by treading on Lego bricks and imitating Dragonball Z characters.

  2. Lead Guitar - Rowan Leah

    Lead Guitar - Rowan Leah

The songwriter and storyteller behind Oceans & Omens. Standing at 4 feet tall, this aquatic Hobbit survives on a diet of fantasy novels, red wine, and all the cake.

  3. Rhythm guitar - Aaron Ganley

He likes D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini and croquet. He can't swim, can't dance, and doesn't know karate. Let's face it...he's never gonna make it.

  4. Bass - Nathan Menage

A sentient array of dreadlocks that rolled into the studio one day and started playing bass with more ferocity than any known human.

Lyrics

Adrift

So far from shore, no one can hear my screams
They’re oblivious to the struggle that’s slowly killing me
I’ve been left to drown, left to succumb to eternity

Drifting from consciousness accepting the end
Allowing the waves to carry my brittle bones away
And escape this pain

Grasping at the surface, a cruel fate
Drifting upon these icy waves
Betray my faith
I reach for the heavens, scream at the sky
But there’s no hope for me
Slipping below, I won’t let go
Lost in the undertow
Cast adrift in the wake of time

So far from shore, no one can hear my screams
They’re oblivious to the struggle that’s slowly killing me

Drifting from consciousness accepting the end
Allowing the waves to carry my brittle bones away
And escape this pain

Sinking, sinking
This sinking feeling never dies, cut the rope
Sever the ties
Sever the ties

So far from shore, no one can hear my screams
They’re oblivious to the struggle that’s slowly killing me
I’ve been left to drown, I’m adrift

Deliverance

Hollow and broken, life slipping away
A fallen man with a lost soul
I’ve been led astray
I ask you father, guide me on this lonely road
Shelter us through the teeth of the storm, and never let us go

Lightning splits the sky, heavens sundered by a blinding light
My soul cast away to fate
I hear the drums, the titans are awake
Illest omen, malicious hate, all light dies
All light dies

Across the gulf of the ocean, I still see her face
The fear in her eyes, no chance for one last embrace
Divine fury ignites, manipulating our lives
Cold minds and vipers’ lies, my life for their demise
Their demise

When your future lies before you, flayed bare before your eyes
A cruel fate it twists and turns, the devil’s grand design

Hollow and broken, life slipping away
Crushed dreams, and frail lives
Hopes fall like embers from a fractured sky

Your shadow engulfs the world,
Prayers of the faithful go unheard
Laughter from heaven above
Condemning those who call you god
Faithful do they know of your hate?
Their souls in the palm of your hand
Ruin you are
And ruin you shall bring to this land
Chaos sower, great destroyer

Across the gulf of the ocean, I still see her face
The fear in her eyes, no chance for one last embrace
Divine fury ignites, manipulating our lives

Go ahead and take your toll
Rip out my heart, my life, my soul
Vengeance floods this shell
As I descend into hell

Let darkness claim me
Escape this world that chains me
Release me from this life
End my suffering and strife
Deliverance

Visions

As I slip away, darkness surrounds me
Deeper and deeper, there’s no escaping this

Face my fears

Visions cloud my mind, chapters of my life pass me by
I see the eyes of those who left me to die
To die

Death’s grip tightens
Don’t leave me here

These visions fade before my eyes
Visions of my life I realise
My imperfections, my mistakes
Some things you just can’t erase

Visions, they burn, they sear my soul
Memories, they fade
The threads of my life are slipping away

I can’t take this
I can’t take this much longer
My mind is breaking
The Abyss is waiting

Visions cloud my mind, all hope and reason cast aside
Is this the end or is it just the beginning?
The beginning

These visions fade before my eyes
Visions of my life I realise
My imperfections, my mistakes
Some things you just can’t erase

Visions, they burn, they sear my soul
Memories, hey fade
The threads of my life are slipping away

Fading away

From The Deep

This is depths of the ocean
The depths of the ocean

Death to all souls that drown in the darkness
Black shadows slip around me
This truly is the end, the end of my existence
My life a fading memory as the ocean weight drags me down
This is my final plea
Can anybody rescue me?

It awakens from the deep
Surging forth to claim me
A sleepless malice that has been unleashed
To consume this shattered form
Ravenous, reptilian eyes staring back into mine
I see my future flayed bare before my eyes
As it starts to captivate my mind

Unable to move
Unable to breath
Unable to die

I can feel the searching eyes, a beast unleashed, my life it’s prize
Predator, consume my mind, rend my soul, claim my life

It awakens from the deep
Surging forth to claim me
A sleepless malice that has been unleashed
To consume this shattered form

Die
Devoured

Surfacing

Do you believe in ghosts?
Do you believe in a presence beneath the waves?
Beneath the surface
Beneath the surface
Cold light illuminates
A night of endless nights fades away
Ascend from this lonesome place
Old friend carry me home
The ocean whispers, it calls to me
Igniting the spark, reviving hopes and dreams
Suspended in the blue divide, I see the light
It's within my reach

Surfacing, clarity, hidden depths bely, thallasic hordes arise
Cerulean sea, fury, rain swept sky beckon me

Striving for the light, tearing free from the void’s vice grip
Breaking these shackles binding me
New currents churn with the beating of a dead heart
Breath of rebirth fill my lungs as a pulse of life resonates
Creatures of the chasm surge forth
Hell’s horde unleashed upon this world
Fell shadow spreading, lungs burning
Demons ascending, limbs striving
My battered form breaks the waves

Surfacing, clarity, hidden depths bely, thalassic hordes arise
Cerulean sea, fury, rain swept sky beckon me
Grasp life, emerge, revenant of the ocean
Strike out across the waves

Cold light illuminates, night of endless nights fade away
Ascend from this lonesome place, old friend carry me home
Fractured mind, lacerated soul
Dark import, fate foretold
Drowning me, crushing me, dragging me down into the void
Free myself from hell eternal
A world where chaos thrives, ancient realm where horrors writhe
Fell shadow spreading, lungs burning
Demons ascending, limbs striving
You’ve failed. I will never succumb
I am a harbinger of foretold fate
Impending violence yet to break

Rise
Rise
Rise
Rise

The ocean whispers, it calls to me Igniting the spark, reviving hopes and dreams
Suspended in the blue divide
I see the light, it’s within my reach

Surfacing, clarity, hidden depths bely, thalassic hordes arise
Cerulean sea, fury, rain swept sky beckon me
Grasp life, emerge, revenant of the ocean
Strike out across the waves
Cerulean sea, fury, rain swept sky
I’m surfacing
