About

Yang Liu

Hi! I’m Yang, a Chinese-Canadian-American paper artist based in California. I create one-of-a-kind botanical sculptures that sit somewhere between dreams and reality.

Inspired by the natural world, traditional Chinese ink paintings, and watercolors, my artworks are crafted with care and attention to detail. Using different weights, colors, and vintages of paper, I build each piece over a wire, cotton, or papier-mâché frame, cutting paper freehand to achieve an organic feel. I hand color and apply glazes to emulate a variety of natural surface textures, making each artwork a labor-intensive creation.

My aesthetic tends towards minimalistic styling with an appreciation for negative space, and I believe that my art brings a unique twist to the beauty of plants and everyday things. Each piece is created with longevity in mind, and I hope that my artworks bring a little bit of beauty into your life.

If you have any inquiries, collaborations, or paper art commission requests, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'd love to hear from you and see how we can work together.
