Hair Porosity Test (Cuticle Test)

Your hair porosity is determined by how much moisture your cuticles can absorb. Knowing this is a game changer for your hair regimen! Find out your hair porosity by taking the test below.

Instructions:
1. Fill a cup with water half way.

2. Take a hair strand from your brush and put it in the water.

LOW POROSITY

If it sits at the top or close to the top of the water, you have LOW POROSITY. Your hair cuticles are like tiny holes, making it hard for your hair to absorb moisture. Light oils and products work best with this porosity.

MEDIUM POROSITY

If it sits in the middle of the water, you have MEDIUM POROSITY. This is considered the healthiest porosity. Your cuticles are a normal size, meaning your hair is easily able to absorb and keep moisture. Use a combination of waters and oils to maintain your healthy hair.

HIGH POROSITY

If it sinks to the bottom, you have HIGH POROSITY. This kind of porosity is commonly seen with damaged hair, including chemically processed or color treated hair. Your hair cuticles are like big holes, meaning moisture is hard to absorb and keep. It just goes right through. Heavy oils and products work best with this porosity.
