I want to share my story about what brought me here. From about age 13 or 14 I’ve been struggling with acne, that’s more than half my life folks. As a teenage girl, I was so embarrassed about my complexion. So, of course, my caring mom took me to a dermatologist, just like she had for my brothers. This time the doctor recommended I start birth control, and a few months later put me on a long-term oral antibiotic, minocycline. In the meantime he also gave me a laundry list of topical cleansers, ointments, and creams to try. A visit to my dentist a few YEARS later revealed damage as a direct result of the minocycline. I immediately dropped the minocycline and continued with my topical treatments, I changed dermatologists and followed his recommendations until I eventually quit going.
For the next decade I tried all the OTC, direct sales, and mail order products you can think of, still never getting the results I was hoping for: CLEAR SKIN. Acne was my norm, I got used it, I was comfortable with it, that’s just how it was going to be.
Then I turned 29, and realized I was too damn old to have acne worse than a prepubescent teenager! I decided to rethink the process and get serious about healing my skin. A friend gifted me her nearly unused products of a popular direct sales brand that had solid, proven results. I thought this was it. I committed to following the directions and used it for 30 days—my skin was worse! So I kept on using it for about 15 more days because I had to trust the process, still no improvement.I decided to schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.
In the meantime, I also discussed it with my big brother Luke, because he always knows what to do. And, in true Luke fashion, he offered some solid advice. We discussed gut health and how what we put into our bodies can affect more than just our taste buds and the number in the scale. Dietary considerations in skin disease seems so logical now, after all, our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, duh. So, I decided to cut out dairy, gluten, and sugar from my diet. Two days after starting said dietary reconstruction I had my appointment with the dermatologist. Let’s just say I left feeling defeated and simultaneously empowered. I was committed to healing my skin and that jerk wasn’t going to be along for the ride! I was very consistent with my diet for a full 30 days. Big brother was right again, my skin was healing! (I’ll share those before & after shots too!)
I was so happy with the improvement that I stuck to it for several weeks more, slowly reintroducing ingredients to try to narrow down the triggers - ultimately finding dairy and sugar to both be an issue. I continue to limit these in my daily diet, but let’s be honest, I’ve got a sweet tooth the size of Mt. Everest and I live on cheese; it’s not sustainable for the long run. Now I know why I have acne though, and I know that I’m contributing to it, so when I decide to have carrot cake with cream cheese frosting - I know I get to look forward to at least half a dozen new pimples for the next few weeks. My fault.
Still in limbo and not super satisfied with my skincare routine since the fiasco at the beginning of the year, I talked to my friend Angie who I had seen sharing some things about a new (to me) anti-aging skincare line. Of course, direct sales again, but my friend Angie is much like Big Brother Luke - always offering only the best and most brilliant advice - so I knew I had to at least listen a little longer. She sent me a sample to try in June, my life was crazy in June so I threw it in my bathroom drawer and forgot about it, discovered it while packing to move and stuck it in a box. In the meantime I had started use another new cleanser and treatment spray, which I was relatively satisfied with.
Now, fast forward 3 months, I was finally getting settled in after the move and tired of the self-blame and being stuck in the never ending circle of food = acne. Time to try something new, I got in touch with Angie and ultimately decided to give it a shot, after all what did I have to lose? That was a pivotal moment for me, life changing really. I was hesitant based on my past experiences, but I took the plunge and placed an order for the cleanser, acne treatment pads, and the Prolistic lotion. After, I placed the order I figured I should find that sample pack and give it a try. I was blown away and loved the way it left my skin feeling so smooth and radiant. I finally received my order in September 20 and haven’t looked back since. I am finally confident that I’m on the right path to clear skin AND I am fighting wrinkles while I’m at it! It’s a win-win.
