Becoming a Social Media Executive

Finding my dream job role at 18

In 2019, I landed a space in the Juice Academy’s content creators program.

Fast forward 4 years, I’m currently Marketing & Social Media Executive for Charles & Ivy!
An apprenticeship taught me that university wasn’t necessarily for me and that it is 100% possible to find a career without a degree!

I will be using this space as my portfolio to showcase some work and experiences during my time as a content creator / social media exec!

About me

Get to know me!

When I’m not working or researching the latest trends, I love catching up with my friends over a marg in the city centre, listening to music (probably Harry Styles), working out and planning my next trip abroad.

I would describe myself as a confident individual who strives to push themselves out of their comfort zone in and out of the work place.

One of my favourite things to do is travel to new places around the world… If I’m not abroad, I’m probably planning my next gig in Manchester!

Likes: Scrolling through TikTok, US office, office dogs, 0.5x camera, the sun, curating new playlists, getting my nails done, cats.

Dislikes: The rain, slow walkers, beer (a touchy subject for some), celery, no plans at the weekend, pepperoni pizza.

Day - to - day responsibilities

The daily tasks of a social media & marketing executive

Current roles I carry out on a day-to-day basis:

- Managing all social media platforms, including: Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), Tiktok, LinkedIn, Threads & Pinterest.

- Replying and engaging with customers via DM, comments and tags.

- Writing captions for social media and blogs for the website.

- Finding new talent for various campaigns & keeping current influencer relations maintained. This includes managing shopify collabs.

- Finding the latest trends that align with the brand to work with on Tiktok and Instagram Reels.

- Video editing via CapCut where needed.

- Creating story templates via Canva to continue a consistent brand identity.

- Updating an analytics sheet and social schedule to align with email, paid and brand.

- Where relevant, being involved and in front of the camera for certain types of posts such as demonstrating use of products, voice overs and presenting.

Branching out

Discovering new & different industries

Recently, I have been intrigued to see if I could put myself to the test with running social platforms within different industries.

My first official client is my PT who is looking to grow her business and switch up the content for her audience and clients and engagement

This has been my first personal challenge that consists of:

- Rebranding my clients page.
- Time management and organisation skills.
- Good communication.
- Content creation including stories / reels / forms / about page.
- Working in a completely new industry and researching content and topics for a brand new audience.

I carried this out for 6 months and helped my client gain confidence in publishing content, growing her reach to find new clients and helping her post consistently.

My next upcoming project is a travel page to assist on having holiday homes booked throughout the summer!

My main goals are:

- Consistent growth and posting
- Creating story templates
- Brand awareness to drive more sales

Work goals

What I hope to learn and achieve in the near future…

Setting myself goals and aspirations always keeps me on my toes and ready for the next challenge!

Professionally, my short goals for my future in marketing would be to acquire more skills in email marketing. This would broaden my skills massively and open up even more branches in my career! I would love to gain a better understanding so I could expand my knowledge within the digital marketing world.

Another one of my short term aims is graphic design. I love noting more than being creative within my job and having an element of graphic design would enable me to produce content easily and efficiently.

Lastly, video editing. Although this may seem a reach from marketing, I have a fair amount of knowledge within content creation. For me, it would be beneficial to take some courses and perfect my skills in editing to create professionally curated videos designed for web, socials and more!
