Chicken and coconut sauce are simmered in salted tamarind water to make pecel ayam. Grain coconut, garlic, onions, peanuts, cutchery, kaffir lime leaves, fried nutmeg, a sachet of shrimp paste, and, for extra heat, cayenne or chilli are all required for the sauce. Sugar, salt are also included in the recipe.
