LINDA BUSTANI

Linda Bustani is one of the most outstanding pianists in the history of Brazilian piano. Her repertoire consists of more than 40 concerti for piano and orchestra, in addition to an extensive list of chamber music and, of course, of music for solo piano. Born in Rondônia, Linda moved as a child to Rio de Janeiro, where she was a brilliant student of Arnaldo Estrella and Antônio Guedes Barbosa. Awarded at the age of 15 at the Vianna da Mota International Competition, in Lisbon, she was invited by Iakov Zak to work under his guidance at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she was also a student of Elisso Virsaladze. Linda won prizes in international competitions in Rio de Janeiro and Bratislava, but it was his acclaimed participation in the Leeds International Competition, in 1974, that launched her international career.

She performed in Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, United Kingdom, Japan, United States and also in Latin America, appearing with orchestras such as the Concertgebouw, New Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Welsh, BBC Scottish, Hallé and Bratislava Symphony, under the direction of conductors such as Simon Rattle, Charles Groves, William Tausky, Anatoli Fistoulari, Louis Frémaux, Okko Kamu, Gunther Herbig, John Neschling, Isaac Karabtchevsky, Eleazar de Carvalho, Roberto Duarte, Henrique Morelenbaum, Alceo Bocchino, Roberto Tibiriçá and Lígia Amadio.

In the early 1980s, after an exhaustive tour of recitals in Europe, Linda decided to take a long break from the stage to dedicate herself to her family, teaching music and, above all, her own personal growth. When she returned to the concert halls, her performances revealed a metamorphosis: Linda was now a more mature, self-critical and investigative pianist. Since then, her intense concert career has remained uninterrupted. In 2003, she was the recipient of the Carlos Gomes Award - the most prestigious musical award in Brazil - in the "Best Pianist of the Year" category.

In 2016, she made the Brazilian premiere of the challenging Left Hand Concerto by Sergei Prokofiev, accompanied by the Petrobras Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, she formed with the the quartet Lindarte with her friends David Chew, Michel Bessler and Bernardo Fantini. In 2020, Linda was honored
with a contest that took her name, the Linda Bustani International Piano Competition, in which she also participated in the jury.
