Getting sober extends beyond physical fitness and wellbeing, yet many people tend to forget to give their mind & emotions the support they need whilst simultaneously taking care of their body too! Let’s be honest, when you’re addicted to drugs or alcohol, you’re not taking care of yourself to your full potential!!
When I started using heroin, I arranged my life so I could get high several times during the day. I'd take a snort first thing in the morning to face the day. Then I'd do more heroin later in the day, between getting to work, doing errands, and seeing friends. But I couldn't keep it under control. There is no control when it comes to heroin addiction.
I started needing to take more and more heroin to feel okay. My routine shrank down to working (to get money), buying heroin, and getting high. Not much else besides eating and sleeping—and not so much of those either. I completely lost touch with my friends and relatives. It was awful.
After ending up robbed, beat & homeless, I saw that I had two choices. Death, or life! I chose life!✨I will have six years clean this Halloween. Halloween is my clean date. Crazy, huh?
A couple years into my sobriety, I began committing to a healthy diet again. I was thirsting for change in a multitude of ways. I didn’t create a diet of deprivation in order to be healthy. In fact, that’s one of the worst things you can do. When you feel deprived in recovery, or generally, you may find it harder to stay sober or reach whatever goal you’re trying to attain. Now, I’m to the point where I have my metabolism where I want it. I eat what I want & don’t gain weight! Balance is key for me!
