Who is she?

Tell the world what you’re made of

From childhood, Artemis was told that she would become an unrivaled warrior, and one day become Queen of the Amazons. One day, she arrogantly tried to claim the most powerful weapon given to the Bana by the Egyptian Gods: the Bow of Ra. However, the weapon rejected her, and the goddess Nephthys appeared and confirmed that Artemis was not ready to wield it.

Today, having her soul entwined with the entity of Mistress, she wields a two-meter axe. Only the purest and most dignified manage to wield the axe, being only Artemis and Bizarro.

She didn't become the Queen of the Amazons, much less managed to find the Arch of Ra, where she set her main objective to get revenge for all the lies and false promises. Now the Champion of All Tribes, Artemis has become the general of Bana-Mighdall.

The Fall of Bana Mighdall

never forget your home and first love.

In her youth, Artemis dreamt of becoming the Shim'Tar, the champion of her people. Despite not believing the endeavor entirely realistic, her best friend and former lover Akila served as her training partner. One day, Artemis noticed Akila had gone missing. She spent several weeks searching to no avail until Akila was teleported back from the residence of the gods. After nursing Akila back to health, she learned that Akila was summoned by the gods and officially made the Shim'Tar.

Akila's new job caused her and Artemis to drift apart. Lonely without her best friend around, Artemis left home to live in the desert, finding some solace there. One night, Artemis noticed Bana-Mighdall under attack and rushed back to help. It turned out that the nation of Qurac, who had been trying to expel the Bana from their home, managed to penetrate the magical sandstorm protecting them. When she reached the city she saw Akila carrying the Bow of Ra and the legendary Wonder Woman had come to stop the fight between the Quraci and the Bana.

Seeing the embodiment of everything she wanted to be in front of her, Artemis attacked Diana in a fit of jealousy. Diana stopped her and explained that she came to help the Bana until Akila used the bow to take out the Quraci and her own sisters. Artemis was still skeptical until Akila began preaching about protecting their home by using Ra's power to destroy it.

Diana explained that the Bow's power had consumed her friend and offered Artemis a choice: side with what's left of Akila or help her end her madness. Artemis sided with Diana, but they could not get through to Akila, so they were forced to kill her. In her last moments, Akila apologized for everything and told Artemis that she was the real Shim'Tar all along. The Bow went missing, so Artemis and Diana assumed the gods had taken it away. However, Artemis later learned that the Bow was stolen from its resting place, and dedicated herself to finding it.

Wonder Woman

Due to Diana being in the demonic dimension, Queen Hippolyta began to see visions of the future. One such vision included Wonder Woman dying. Keeping that to herself, she asked for a new Contest for the title of Wonder Woman. Initially excluding the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall, Queen Hippolyta submitted a vote as a whole to include them in Diana's request.

Through some mystical management on Hippolyta's part, Artemis eventually won the Contest and became the new Wonder Woman. As gifts to help her in her new quest, Artemis received several mystical objects. The Gauntlet of Atlas, which increased the strength of its wielder 10 times, The Sandals of Hermes, which gave the gift of speed and flight, and the golden Lasso of Truth which forces anyone bound by it to speak only the truth.

Although Artemis diligently tried to part ways with his predecessor, this proved to be quite difficult to do. Her approach to various situations was often seen as more violent than beneficial. Because of this, and due to Diana's respect for the Men's World, Artemis would often receive the cold shoulder from those she tried to help, extending to her brief time in the Justice League. A comment was made once that Batman refused to allow Artemis to even sit in the "Diana" chair during JLA meetings.

She later met a representative from a public relations firm who agreed to help Artemis with her public appearance. What Artemis wasn't aware of was that the company had staged several fake battles for her. She later vanquished two villains and ultimately helped some immigrant slave workers. Still feeling like she wasn't getting enough respect, she set about proving herself on her own, taking the biggest family out of Boston's brigade.

After failing that, Diana exposed Artemis to the truth about her battle with the villains. Enraged at being tricked, she set out to take down the White Mage.

Unfortunately, Artemis' arrogance eventually got the better of her, and she died in a battle with him because he became a high lord demon with nearly unstoppable power. Thus, Queen Hippolyta's vision of Wonder Woman's death came true.

Requiem

For some reason, after death, Artemis' soul ended up in Tartarus and there she became a concubine with one of the Princes of Hell, named Dalkriig-Hath. Diana had come to her aid, but Artemis accepted her fate.

Despite being raped, beaten and tortured at first, at the hands of her "husband" and possibly other demons, she got used to her "condemnation", and adapted quickly, even managing to achieve some small comfort.

When Diana is tortured for trying to help a demon get punished, Artemis initially turns his back on Diana. However, she felt guilty for abandoning her sister and setting her free. Using a revolt as a cover, Artemis manages to take Diana back to the world of the living and get back to living life.

Wanting to part with her former title as Wonder Woman, Artemis used her skills learned in Tartarus to her advantage and joined a group of demon-hunting heroes called the Hellenders. While there, she was given the codename Javelin, which she quickly rejected by the name Requiem.

Artemis developed a romantic interest in fellow Hellender Sure-Shot, a master of arsenal and projection weapons. Seeing her feelings as weakness, she hid her feelings, though her teammates could still see her true feelings. This interest dropped when she discovered that Sure-Shot's noticeable self-confidence was sparked by psychotropic drugs that were supposed to keep several Hellender members fearless as they battled demons and ghouls.

She also befriended a woman by the name of Henrietta Jessup, who went by the codename Sojourner. Though the Sojourner had no warrior skills to speak of, Artemis stood by her friend and professed her as a novice in the amazon.

After learning that Hellender's leaders had secretly attempted to summon fallen angels to Earth, Artemis saw through the ruse, but it was too late to stop them from summoning her husband. Though the ensuing battle claimed the lives of seven Hellenders, Artemis managed to kill Dalkriig-Hath.

With the help of a horse demon who led a revolt against her dead husband, Artemis revived her fallen comrades.

Artemis' role as a teacher/mentor was later expanded as Wonder Woman asked Artemis to adopt a new student, that of Cassandra Sandsmark who became the new Wonder Girl. Taking Cassandra as a full-time student, Artemis became a reserve member of the Hellenders leaving Sojourner to take her place as a full-time member.

Later still, Artemis's teacher/mentor curriculum would expand to include Supergirl's combat training. It was during Supergirl's initial meeting that Artemis would gain his revenge on Batman for his hostile attitude towards her when he tried to join the JLA. Artemis easily defeated Batman in combat, but was eventually subjected to an advanced calming dart.

The underworld demon Belyllioth, who served as a master over some of Myrmidon's demons, later contacted Artemis to inform her of an unrest in Tartarus. With the death of the demon Dalkriig-Hath, the remaining twelve princes of hell were fighting for dominance over the dead demon realm. As the widow of Dalkriig-Hath, Artemis was by close rights in the rule of her region of Hades. Artemis ended the demonic war by presenting himself before the twelve demonic rulers to be officially granted the station by her ex-husband.

After the blessing ceremony was given, Artemis revealed that the blessing was actually given to Belyllioth, who was magically disguised in Artemis's form. Angered by her deception, the twelve princes of hell vowed revenge on Artemis upon returning to Hades. Fortunately for Artemis, her devoted friend Belyllioth (now officially one of the thirteen rulers of Tartarus) has sworn his loyalty and protection to the Amazon for eternity.

Shim’Tar

After some time, Artemis returned to Themyscira to help her Amazon sisters in the uncomfortable living conditions they continued to work in due to lingering animosities between the two tribes. Civil war was incited by the Amazon sorceress Magala eventually broke out between the two groups of Amazons.

After the current Shim'Tar was overthrown, Artemis assumed the title of chief warrior of the tribe. She did this in hopes of ending the war and guiding the two tribes into peaceful negotiations. As Shim'Tar, Artemis battled Queen Hippolyta, who acted as the newest Wonder Woman. During their battle, Artemis reminded Hippolyta that the queen of Themyscira was not given Wonder Woman's armor out of honor, but rather as a punishment for causing the death of not only Artemis, but her daughter Diana as well.

Ultimately coming to her senses, Hippolyta finally forgave the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall for their earlier transgressions and joined her daughter Diana on the battlefield. Together, Queen Hippolyta and Princess Diana renounced their crowns, leaving the island without a structured government in hopes of ending the unnecessary slaughter brought on by the war.

They were successful and Artemis and Themyscira General Phillipus were later elected to be co-rulers of the island.

Dark Trinity

After a year of searching the Bow of Ra, Artemis was able to get a solid lead by interrogating a US Senator. She learned that a criminal called the Black Mask was smuggling a weapon into Gotham City, and assumed it to be the Bow of Ra. Her search led her to meet the Red Hood, who was working undercover as a member of Black Mask's gang. Artemis, thinking him a simple thug, jumped in to fight him. Jason managed to get her to ally with him after explaining that he was working undercover, and the two combined their efforts. Artemis was shocked to discover that the weapon was not the Bow, but rather a Superman clone. Before either her or Jason could do anything else, the two were incapacitated by Black Mask's security measures.

Artemis was locked in a cell opposite the clone. When Red Hood tried to see if the clone was sentient, Artemis warned him against it, believing the creation to be nothing more than a monster. Jason intended to free Artemis, but she chose to remain incarcerated to monitor the clone and see if Black Mask had any leads on the location of the Bow of Ra. Considering the clone a kindred spirit, Red Hood resolved to try to reach him anyway, and officially gave him the name Bizarro. Confused by the name, Artemis claimed that he was a monster incapable of understanding him, a statement which caused Bizarro to go berserk.

Bizarro attacked Jason and Artemis initially refused to blow her cover by helping, but she soon had a change of heart and prepared to break out of her cell. However, Jason managed to calm Bizarro down and get him to see himself and Artemis as friends. The next day, Artemis escaped and, eavesdropping on Red Hood and Black Mask, followed them to the basement. Once there, Jason, aware of her presence, inquired about the Bow. Mask revealed that he had it but sold it to someone in Qurac. Upset that the Bow escaped her grasp, she left as Jason silently wished her luck.

When Red Hood was forced to battle a brainwashed Bizarro, Artemis intervened before Bizarro could kill him. She claimed that she could handle Bizarro alone, but when Bizarro damaged her magic axe, Artemis was weakened due to the bond she shares with it. Jason came up with a plan to stop Black Mask, but Artemis refused to cooperate. She attacked Bizarro head on but was overpowered, and Red Hood stopped her from charging in again. Though upset that he had put a hand on her, Jason called her out on actually caring about the threat Bizarro posed. Artemis was moved to cooperate, and Red Hood convinced her to avoid killing Bizarro long enough for him to implement his plan, so she switched to non-lethal tactics. Along the way, she noticed Bizarro regaining his senses, prompting her to realize Jason's plan: separate Bizarro from Black Mask to weaken their bond. Despite her best efforts, she could not stop Bizarro from returning to Black Mask's side. Fortunately, the duo prevented Black Mask from killing him.

Once Red Hood and Artemis recovered, Artemis renewed her attack, hoping to stall Bizarro long enough for the techno-virus Black Mask was using to control Bizarro to backfire and damage his brain. Though she held Bizarro off, she was eventually cornered. Before he could kill her, Jason's plan worked, leaving Bizarro free and Mask brain damaged. Though she was satisfied at the outcome, she was upset that she deviated from her quest for the Bow of Ra. Artemis prepared to leave, but Red Hood offered to help her in her quest out of gratitude. She initially refused, but Bizarro convinced her to relent. Artemis decided to let them help provided they split up once her quest is complete, and they all agree, forming the new Outlaws.
