Florida Bill: HB 583
“Can’t Call Yourself a Doctor”
Help fight against this Bill that encourages patient misinformation and disparages the doctoral degree of optometry. The goal of contacting the Florida House of Representatives is to stop the Bill from moving anymore forward than it already has or to have Optometrists included in the Bill, alongside our allied healthcare professionals, as being able to use the terms of “optometric physician” and “doctor of optometry,” titles held by Optometrists for centuries.
PLEASE SEND EMAILS TO THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ASAP!!

𝘼 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙚 :
Hi there! I’m Blythe and I’m a non-traditional optometry student. I am in my 4th year of a five year program at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry.
Prior to optometry school, I was extremely active in my community. I worked at a private optometry practice for 5 years and shadowed an ophthalmologist for 1 year. I was President of my undergraduate college’s Pre-Optometry Professional Society. I volunteered at the Special Olympics: “Opening Eyes” event at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. I also presented at the Citrix Health Fair convention where I brought awareness to optometry. Alongside my community involvement, I performed research in visual perception. My research helped document how the human eye perceives motion and furthered the advancement in the studies of the neural pathways associated with the ocular system.
Since I have started school I have become a journalist for OptometryStudents.com, which is a student geared website run by the American Optometric Association. I was the Transitions Lenses Student Ambassador for 2021-2022. I have taken on the role as President of the Contact Lens and Cornea Society at NSUCO. And I have become the Vice President of NSU’s division of the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society.
I am so excited to be able to share with all of you my work and to encourage, inspire, and inform those around me. I hope to continue to bring awareness to the amazing field of optometry!
