artist statement

In my artistic journey, I explore the intricate interplay of emotions through a fusion of print media, textiles, and ceramic art. My work serves as an outlet for the expression of my own human experience with print media as the foundation of my creations. I am capable of providing viewers with a unique perspective and visual language through which I communicate my deepest emotions and vulnerabilities.

I often feel more emotions than my body can withstand, in turn, I transform those emotions into something beautiful. Through this transformation I strive to memorialize and preserve my memories, experiences, and emotions– ones that I desperately do not want to forget and ones that are needing to be purged.

You’ll Feel Better Soon

Screenprint on paper and envelopes, 2024

This piece was inspired by a 5 minute video call I had with my doctor that cost me $270.

We live in a country that punishes people who cannot afford basic healthcare.

Each paper is a bill or EOB I recieved and collected this year, and on each paper/envelope are carnivorous plants and opinions from others I have also collected. The papers and envelopes are pinned to a gold corkboard as a means of declaring the importance of each item pinned up. In my family we always pin up important bills, reminders, and appointments on a cork board so we couldn’t forget them.

Similar to a Pitcher Plant, or a Venus Flytrap, we are lured in by the sweet nectar of help and safety, yet, once we get in too deep we are trapped and sucked dry of our livelihood due to the greed of medical professionals and corporations.

I knew at the start of the year I wanted to make something big. Something intense and bold and physically BIG.
After the Fall 2023 semester at my college passed I realized I have a recurring theme in my work- carnivorous plants. This theme came to me through the love for their duality. The beauty of their physical appearance combined with the complexity of their biology had a hold on me. Yet despite their beauty, they can be very dangerous. Their beauty and sweet nectar, like with pitcher plants, lure bugs in and once they get too distracted by their sweet treat, they fall into the plant never return.

It is not my fault that I was born a woman, yet I suffer the consequences.

This piece uses the traditional story of Adam & Eve and turns it into feminist narrative.

Since the beginning of time women have faced the wrath of the world, we have been judged by society for all that we are, and all that we are not.

The Rules

Relief on Digital Print

This piece is very personal. As we go down the list of rules we see a quick transition from general household rules into something more volatile.
Words hurt, especially coming from people you may love. This piece is one of self-expression, trauma healing, and an overall vow to my younger self that words like these can no longer hurt me.

    The Process: Step 2

A good artist never shares the full step-by-step process, only a few pictures of key moments and then the end result. Here I began carving out the lettering for each line.

  3. The Process: Step 3

Two weeks in, only halfway there. It was at this point I finally decided on the background for such a personal piece,
