Why join us

The benefits of line dancing and how it can help

Boot Scoot & Bloom offers fun, welcoming and inclusive line dancing classes specifically designed for people in our community with a disability. Whether you're new to dancing or just want to move your body, connect with others and build confidence, our classes are all about joy, rhythm and community spirit.

Taught in a relaxed, judgment-free environment, participants will learn appropriate dances that support physical activity, improve coordination and encourage self-expression; no prior dance experience required.

Benefits of joining Boot Scoot & Bloom:

🎵 Improve coordination, balance & mobility
💬 Build social connections and confidence
😄 Reduce stress and increase happiness
💪 Encourage physical movement in a joyful way
🧠 Support cognitive function with rhythmic patterning

Our classes run for 60 minutes. We dance in approximately 15-20 minutes intervals, having breaks for water in between.

Classes are supported by Illawarra Country Bootscooters and facilitated by Karissa Howard, who brings a heart-centred approach to movement, music and inclusivity.

Come along and experience the joy of dancing, one step at a time!

** please note that as I am busy teaching the class, support is limited so if you / your participant requires a carer, the carer must stay for the class. They are absolutely able (and encouraged) to participate 🙂 The cost ($15) includes the cost of the carer / companion.

What should you wear? What should you bring?

👜 What to Bring to Class

✨ Just yourself and a smile! But to help you feel comfortable and get the most out of your session, we suggest:

👟 Comfy clothing & closed-in shoes – active wear or something you can go for a light walk in as well as sneakers or flat-soled boots work great for our dance class

💦 Water bottle – we’ll get moving, so hydration is key!

🪑 Support items – mobility aids, walkers, or anything you need to feel confident and supported are absolutely welcome

🧢 Optional: Hat or hair tie – keep cool and focused while dancing

📝 Support worker or carer – you're welcome to bring someone with you if need be!

🌸 Anything that you need to have an enjoyable and safe light 60 minute workout

No special clothes or prior experience needed—just wear something comfy you can move in!

Classes are taught by the friendly, fun and passionate Karissa

Hi, I'm Karissa — the founder of Boot Scoot & Bloom and a proud dancer and instructor with the Illawarra Country Bootscooters.

My love for line dancing runs deep — not just for the joy of movement, but for the connection, confidence, and sense of community it brings.

I’ve seen firsthand how dancing can uplift spirits, improve mental health, and build fitness, especially for people living with disability.

I hold a current NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check, and I’m passionate about creating an inclusive, welcoming space where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated.
