Weight Loss Journey —

My why, when and result

In April 2017, my daughter and myself were diagnosed the same day with a rare gene mutation called PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome. For her it posed Global developmental delay and both of us a lifetime risk of 6 different types of cancer: Breast, Thyroid, Uterus, Kidney, Colon and Skin. Being 330lbs was no longer acceptable for me because I had to do preventative measures to lower my risk for what I could prevent. My mom, aunt and grandmother all had breast cancer at least once and I knew I was next. In order to do the procedures safely (3 surgeries in 9 months…. I had to lose my excess weight. The next month, I scheduled a gastric sleeve procedure to have the tool needed to have a successful weight loss journey.
Right after my sleeve, I had several obstacles in my way from
Fulfilling my goal: a complete thyroidectomy, partial hysterectomy (i have one ovary left that isnt working so im in pre menopause), then after my two year mark, i lost enough weight to qualify for a bi lateral mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction. This surgery was no joke. The doctors commended me for getting my weight down and I even got approved for a full abdominalplasty while doing my reconstruction ( my reward for a job well done I guess). Fast forward til today, I am 5 years from my gastric sleeve procedure and have maintained a 130lb weight loss!
