About
Breeanna Hickman
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in 2016 while pregnant with my daughter and ended up on bedrest. That, combined with other factors like age, family history and weight had me diagnosed with type 2 non-insulin dependent diabetes in 2020 in the height of the pandemic without being able to see anyone or get any help.
I leaned into online resources and built a team of healthcare professionals and virtual community all while working from home and in my vehicle with my spouse as an essential shift worker.
I know what it’s like to feel busy and overwhelmed, trying to figure out how to hold everything and everyone together, not knowing where to start. I know what it’s like for the ease of convenience foods and drive thru lines while rushing from one thing to the next. I know what it’s like to live with picky eaters and being depended on to meal plan, prep and cook.
I know what it’s like to search endlessly for recipes that are quick, nutritious and delicious ways to eat but not be restricted. I would get bummed out to come across a recipe labelled “clean” but it be full of sugar with little nutrients to balance blood sugar.
I know what it’s like to feel the frustration of insulin resistance, PCOS, thyroid and perimenopause to get thrown into the mix.
Whether you have type 2 diabetes, pre diabetes or are wanting feel the restrictions of dieting or worry if I’m eating the “right thing”.
I’ve found a way to prioritize my mental and physical health and keep my type 2 diabetes at bay by building routines, communities and simple ways for
• meals
• movement
