Recipe of the Month: Sugar Cookies

I made so many of these over the holidays. They’re really easy to make, fun to decorate, and taste really yummy 😋

210g unsalted butter, room temperature
370g all purpose flour
Pinch of salt
1 egg, room temperature
200g sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Step 1

In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar for about 5 minutes - it should look light and fluffy.

Step 2

Add in the egg and the vanilla to your butter and sugar mixture. Mix until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate bowl add your flour and salt - whisk to combine.

Now add in your flour little by little to your butter/sugar/egg mixture. DO NOT add in all your flour at once.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl as you go along to ensure everything is well combined.

Step 4

Flatten your dough into a disc shape.

Wrap your dough in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes.

While your dough is chilling in the fridge preheat your oven to 325 degrees.

Step 5

Take your chilled dough out of fridge.
Roll it out onto a lightly floured surface.
Roll it until it’s approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Use cookie cutters to cut out your shapes.

Bake on a lined cookie sheet (you can use parchment paper or silpat mat).

Bake for 20 minutes.

Step 6

Remove from oven. Cookies should be light in colour on top, and golden brown on the bottom.

Let cookies cool completely.

Decorate and enjoy.

Note: Try using royal icing, buttercream, or melted chocolate to decorate. Top with sprinkles if you like 😋
