Niacinamide is the ultimate multitasker in skincare with its multiples benefits…but let’s see exactly what is it…and why after reading the article you’ll want to try out.
❓WHAT IS IT ❓
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3.
You can get Niacinamide from diets such as fish, meat, eggs, green vegetables, milk, and nuts. The nutritional benefits of vitamin B3 have long been established but the skincare benefits are a recent discovery.
It is water-soluble with a PH of 6.0-7.5. This neutral PH makes niacinamide very well tolerated and safe when applied topically.
Very effective on its own but also if combined with other ingredients like peptides, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid enhancing their potency.
▪️BENEFITS ▪️
🖤STRENGTHENS SKIN BARRIERS: in fact help to fortify the skin’s lipid barrier (stratum corneum) and as a result protects the deeper skin layers from the entry of bacteria and other irritants
🖤REDUCES OILINESS: reduces facial sebum production
🖤VISIBLY SHRINKS ENLARGED PORES: Niacinamide reduces sebum production and we know that when the sebum excretion is lower, the appearance of enlarged pores is dramatically improved.
🖤TREATMENT FOR ACNE: Its anti-inflammatory properties help to eliminate acne bacteria and reduce inflammation on the skin
🖤FADES HYPERPIGMENTATION: Niacinamide breaks down melanin and slows down melanin production resulting as one of the most effective ingredients to reduce dark spots and lighten complexion
🖤IMPROVES DRY SKIN: help to decrease water loss resulting in an improved skin barrier
🖤REDUCES THE APPEARANCE OF FINE LINES AND WRINKLES: increases collagen synthesis in the skin, it can penetrate the skin stimulating collagen and epidermal proteins to reverse the signs of aging
🖤CALMS ROSACEA AND REDNESS: well-tolerated and gentle and can significantly improve the persistent redness and reduce flare-ups
🖤UV PROTECTION: wonderful antioxidant that decreases the number of free radicals generated when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet radiation
🖤IMPROVES SKIN ELASTICITY: ability to increase collagen production
❓HOW ❓
Can you use it every day? Yes
Niacinamide can be found in a variety of products, but niacinamide serums, boosters, and moisturizers are most common for their maximum effect.
Using a product with too high concentration of niacinamide can cause breakouts due to irritation, however if your skin can handle products well you can try even 10% concentration to be apply just in the needed areas. A concentration of around 4-5% niacinamide has been shown to have enough benefits. I wouldn’t use any higher concentration if you have sensitive skin and start with 2-3% .
❓CAN I USE IT WITH…❓
▪️RETINOL: yes, apply Niacinamide first and then retinol, this will actually protect the skin from retinol side effects
▪️VITAMIN C: you can but be careful as they are both brightening ingredients, better try to alternate them; if your skin is sensitive I’d say no as can cause flushing.
▪️AHA/GLYCOLIC or LACTIC ACID: You can but 30 mins apart between applications, as using them together will raise the pH of the acid making difficult for the skin to absorb them and reducing the positive effects. Otherwise alternate them.
▪️BHA/ SALICYLIC ACID: yes yes yes, they are amazing together especially to treat enlarged pores, excess of sebum production and low collagen production.
A powerful combination of ingredients to support, repair and reinforce the skin’s barrier helping to protect against acute skin stressors such as pollution, UV and lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack and sleep

▪️This powder can be mixed with any water-based product (with a pH between 5.0 and 7.0) to help combat blemishes, congestion, visible shine, enlarged pores, and sebum over-production.
❗️ DO NOT COMBINE WITH❗️
Ascorbic acid
Ethylated ascorbic acid
Any vitamin C derivatives
Direct acids
Any formula with a pH below 5
It’s one of my fav ingredients in skincare, has multiple benefits and you can use it in lots of different ways.
We all know that reading the ingredients of a product can be very confusing, especially when it comes to Vit C which is always found in different ways.
It is a special ingredient but it must be used carefully especially if combined with other ingredients, the thing we do not want is to end up using a product that causes us irritation or simply that is not effective for our skin.
❓WHY ❓
▪️ANTIOXIDANT in fact protects the skin from sun damage, photo-ageing and environmental pollutants
▪️ANTI-AGEING prevents weakening and damaging of collagen in the body.
Reduces oxidative stress in the skin resulting in improving the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
▪️BRIGHTENING effects on skin preventing overproduction of melanin
▪️SPEEDS UP HEALING due to its ANTI-INFLAMMATORY properties ( maybe helpful in the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis )
❓WHEN❓
Morning & evening
( morning is better thanks to its photo-protection properties )
You can also use it in both, perhaps using it in two different products such as a serum and an essence.
❓HOW❓
After your cleanser, toner and essence
Let it sit for a few minutes ( if you’ve got 30 mins even better ) until the product feels a little tacky on the skin then follow up with your moisturizer and SPF !! SPF!! SPF!!
❓TYPES❓
🍊L-ASCORBIC ACID (at least15%) not stable form of Vit C, increases firmness and reduces photo-damage
FOR NORMAL TO OILY SKIN TYPE
🍊ASCORBYL PALMITATE lipid-soluble and stable form of Vit C, really good antioxidant
FOR EVERY SKIN TYPE
🍊SODIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE water soluble and stable form of Vit C evens out skin tone and brightening complexion
FOR EVERY SKIN TYPE
🍊MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE is the most stable form of Vit C help to increase collagen and protect against free radicals
FOR DRY AND SENSITIVE SKIN
🍊TETRAHEXYLDECYL ASCORBATE oil-soluble form of Vit C, it can penetrate deeper into the skin
FOR AGEING SKIN
🍊ASCORBYlL GLUCOSIDE very popular in skincare, is much less likely to cause irritation, not as potent as the pure stuff but it works very well especially combined with NIACINAMIDE(very helpful for severe ACNE especially inflammatory forms like papules and pustules)
📌VIT C + NIACINAMIDE
Yes you can use together in the same product
Yes to layer one over the other for a powerful combo that addresses uneven skin tone, wrinkles, loss of firmness and dullness.
ALL SKIN TYPE
📌VIT C + RETINOL
▪️Vit C in the morning and Retinol at the night as they have different PH
▪️Vit C and Retinol on alternate nights
▪️Vit C and Retinol at night, 30 minutes apart
Apply Vit C first since it has a lower PH of the two. The waiting period allows your skin’s PH to return to normal, so every ingredient can work at its PH.
▪️Vit C derivates and Retinol at night if you don’t have 30 mins to wait you can opt for derivatives.
📌VIT C + BHA/AHA
Easy, the secret for how to layer Vit C your acids is to apply them from lowest PH to the highest: CBA.
Vit C first, BHA second and then AHA last
If your skin is not used to acids or you’ve never tried combining Vit C with BHA or AHA before
‼️TAKE IT SLOW‼️
Putting all three products on your skin could cause irritation and redness.
1.Start by applying just Vit C, every other day for a week
2.add your BHA
3.once your skin can handle those two, you can add your AHA
4.if your skin reacts well you can keep it on an every other day schedule or move on using the combo every day
📌if you are new to acids, PHAs are a great place to start 😃
🙃 DOWNSIDE 🙃
Vitamin C degrades on exposure to air, light and heat, so stability of topical vitamin C is a concern.
‼️VIT C concentration should be between 10-20%‼️ for optimal skin care benefits,
If the product contain less then this it loses the efficacy from the moment you begin using it. This is why many skincare products are using Vit C derivates that may be gentler on the skin, however they can be less potent then VIT C
❗️if you are Acne-prone skin I would test out different products to see which best suits you as you can experience redness, sensitivity due to the high concentration of Vit C

I know, when someone talks abouts acids in skincare we are all scared but at the same time we all want try them on with cleansers, toners, scrubs, peels, masks.
Again we are in front a multitude acids with lots of different benefits and as with all ingredients we must be careful how to use them especially if never used before.
But don’t worry, they actually can be our best friends and be absolutely a miracle for our skin!
Let’s see how…
▪️AHA ▪️
stands for alpha hydroxy acid
are water-soluble so only work on skin’s surface
•reduces sign of sun damage
•reduces line and wrinkles
•brighten complexion
•increase product absorption
NORMAL/AGEING/DRY
▪️BHA▪️
stands for beta hydroxy acid.
are oil-soluble
•can get deeper into the pores to remove dead skin cells and excess sebum
•minimize enlarged pores
•calming properties so good for rosacea, redness skin
COMBINATION/OILY/ACNE
▪️PHA▪️
stands for polyhydroxic acids
•similar to AHAs but with larger molecules
•they penetrate the skin less, therefore are less likely to induce side effects
‼️ Suffer from SUPER SENSITIVE SKIN? PHAs may well be the answer for you‼️
gluconolactone and lactobionic acids are for you 😉
▪️HOW TO USE▪️
➡️If you want to use them at the same time:
Apply after cleanser and toner starting with whichever has the thinnest texture, you don’t need to wait for one to absorb completely before applying the next and then follow up with your skincare routine
➡️If you alternate them:
choose your exfoliant every week and alternate them day by day or use one for a week, then switch to the other the following week.
Or apply one acid in the morning and one in the night (e.g : fade scars o pigmentation)
