More counselors, less cops in FCPS
Counselors Over Cops FCPS is a collective of students and community activists working together to address and patch the school-prison-pipeline here in Lexington, Kentucky.
Why Counselors Over Cops?
With communities across the United States coming together to demand police and criminal justice reform, it is time for the Fayette County School District to live up to its promise to "Embrace Equity" by divesting from school-based policing. Police presence in schools disproportionately harms students of color and students with disabilities and fuels the school-to-prison pipeline. This means that the communities of color, who disproportionately suffer from discrimination and violence at the hands of police, will suffer the same in their local schools: the place where they should be safest.
