Lemon peel garnish with cherry... Why both? No idea.

Craigie's Quarantinis, 2nd Edition

Sub-par cocktails when you've locked yourself away during a pandemic

01

Quarantini #5, Between the Sheets

This one is really great, and honestly a variation of the Sidecar. The big difference is the addition of rum. It's super simple, and like the Sidecar a crowd pleaser. It's hard to screw up, which is why I like it.

1oz Brandy or Cognac
1oz light rum
1 oz orange liquor, I used triple sec - you could use grand marnier if you want to be all fancy and had a bit of a richer darker flavor.
1oz lemon juice
Dash of some syrup

02

Quarantini #6, the Bombay Cocktail

Okay, not the best one of the lot, but honestly I made it so its on the list. I'll give it a 6/10. You've now been given informed consent if you hate it. Here goes:

1 1/2 ounces brandy

3/4 ounce dry vermouth

3/4 ounce sweet vermouth

1/4 ounce curacao or Grand Marnier

2 dashes absinthe (or substitute Pernod or other pastis)

2 dashes orange bitters

Thin slice of lemon zest, for garnish

03

Quarantini #7 - only for the most daring, the Pickle-infused Whiskey Sour

The recipe I found was jacked up, seriously it was whacked, therefore this came out badly, but I think this could be really great with the following altered recipe. Why did I do this? I had pickle juice and I thought, "why not!" the part of me that should have said, "because it's pickle juice, don't do this!" was apparently not available due to part of my frontal cortex under-functioning for some reason... 🍸... No idea what that could have been. Here goes:

3 oz bourbon
2 oz bread / butter pickle juice
1/2 oz lemon juice
Start with tablespoon of sugar.
Egg white - it's easy.

Throw all the ingredients into a shaker, no ice.

Throw in the egg white with that too. Garnish with a 🥒

Shake it like you stole it.

You should have a good froth from egg white. Then add ice, and shake it again until your Boston shaker is frosty on top.

Pour into a nice glass with your choice of ice.

Enjoy!

Pandemic: Mediocre cocktails of course

Create, play, shake and stir...

Quarantini #7, The LL Martini

The LL stands for lemon lillet, and the lillet makes all the difference with this cocktail. This is one of our favorite cocktails at home, it's slightly sweet, and has a lemony tartness and shockingly not as boozy as one would think. It's easy to drink a little too quickly.

Lillet blanc is actually that special ingredient in the James Bond classic martini, the Vesper. Learn more in the link below.

Okay, keeper movin'

LL Martini

1 oz lillet
3 oz vodka
1/4 - 1/2 oz simple syrup
1 oz lemon juice
Garnished with orange twist (here) - this was due to a lack of the more appropriate lemon in the context of pandemic social distancing. I mean, when you're making a cocktail after the store closes at 6 pm.... You use an orange.

I used a special little peeler to create that ribbon peel called a triangle Germany V-Shape Channel Knife. This tool will leave you feeling like you are making something really special. It's a cheap thing to add to your bar set up, < $10 on Amazon.

Quarantini #8, the Variety, also called the Double Dealer, or the New Orleans.

This was easily the BEST of all the cocktails during this fiasco. I mean, it's got cucumber water in it, it's like eating your veggies.

This little concoction is:
1.5 oz dry gin
1.5 oz cucumber water
(peel and blend entire cucumber - if needed add a little water - like 1/4 oz - no more)
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 lemon juice
1/2 oz jalapeño syrup. (I used much less a jalapeño infused balsamic vinegarette - seriously it was great).

Also, you will need strain this into the glass after you give a good chill in a Boston shaker.

It is a refreshing, slightly sweet drink; the jalapeño gives it a touch of heat. I would have preferred a bit more spice. Next time... 😉

Quarntini #9, The San Francisco

The San Francisco is a bit of a twist on the classic Manhattan, instead of the bourbon or Brandy, this cocktail has gin.

San Francisco cocktail
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz of dry vermouth
1.5 oz dry gin
peychaud bitter - 2 dashs
(one recipe I found included orange bitter)
garnish with cherry 🍒

Yes Erik, you can substitute Angostura Bitters as a suitable substitute for the peychaud bitter.

Quarantini #15 Dulce de Tequila

Dulce de Tequila Cocktail (10/10)
(hacked/expanded/Craigorator version)

2 ounces tequila (Tezón Reposado)
(I used super cheap Torada Tequlia Gold and it was GREAT!) best cheap tequila? I say yes
It's super cheap... I mean it should be terrible but totally not!)

1 ounce cognac (Martell)
(I USED CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND IT WAS GREAT)

1 ounce orange liqueur (Cointreau)
(I USED THAT ... AND IT WAS GREAT)

1/2 ounce lime juice
(I USED... LIME JUICE...YADA YADA)

1 tablespoon agave nectar
(KEEP THE YADA...)

Garnish: sugar (for rim)
(YES...YADA!)

Garnish: lemon or lime wedge
(I totally used an Orange a blood orange specifically and or was... You know)

Quarantini #16, The Commonwealth

The Commonwealth is a simple bourbon based cocktail with a complexity and warmth of a whiskey based cocktail with a bright acidity.

1 1/2 oz of Canadian Whiskey, I used single batch Four Rose's Bourbon that does not offer the sweetness of Candian Whiskey, but I think it worked perfectly as it is a smooth (and cheap) bourbon.

1/2 oz of lemon juice

1/4 oz of Grand Marnier (this is essential) as the darker flavor of this style of orange liquor complements the bourbon perfectly.

That's it... Simple. Shake with ice and serve with a orange twist in a martini glass.

Quarantini #17 The Federation

* Absinthe rinse, if you're like me I was like "WTF is an absinthe rinse?" Well, it turns out it's exactly what it sounds like. Find your handy absinthe liquor on hand and poir a small amount into the glass you will be serving the drink with. Pour out the absinthe, or do a shot with it like I did with it.

* 2 oz of tequila, I recommend your favorite anjeho blend, but I used Repersado and it turned out nicely.

* 1/2 oz of creme de cocoa

* two dashes of agusutra bitters (the one you use with an old fashioned).

Shake it...

Pour it into that absinthe rinsed glass with a big cube of ice, garnish with orange twist.

Quarantini #18 "The Other Craig"

"The Other Craig" cocktail is named after my friend Craig Waterman, one of the most fun, kind and loving people I know. This is my take on a black cherry basil vodka martini.

Like Craig, "The Other Craig" cocktail is full of complexity, personality and great at a party. The muddled black cherry provide a deep reddish hue and a fruity sweetness. 3oz of vodka make this one slightly alcohol forward and the basil provides and element of soft herbaciousness.

1) pit 8 black cherries
2) chop two basil leaves
3) 1/2 oz of lime juice
4) 3 oz Vodka
5) 1/2 oz simple syrup

Muddle it.

Pour into your shaker and give it a ride until it's frosty.

*Important*

Pour into martini glass over strainer.

Garnish with basil sprig.

Enjoy "The Other Craig"

Quarantini # 19, The Cucumber Martini.

Recipe is for two drinks, because this one you don't drink alone. 4 Oz Vodka, peel 6 inches of cucumber (seed and peel). Chop cucumber and throw into your shaker with no ice. Two pretty good pinches of chopped basil, throw that in with the cucumber and pour in the vodka and 1 oz of lime juice and 1 oz of simple syrup. Muddle it all. Throw in some cubes of ice, not crushed or it will get watery. Shake it until your shaker is frosty cold. Pour through strainer into glasses and garnish with cucumber. All done.

Day 86: No Zombies Have Arrived Yet

As we turn now to page 86 of the quarantine I have decided to press in and keep making cocktails. Are you with me America?

01

Quarantini #20 The Melrose Rum Bum

For two cocktails

Made up cocktail because I had rum(s), mango and an orange that needed to find a place to the universe beyond my fruit bowl.

Step one cut up mango and the orange.
Middle them until ya for the juice all freed up.

Pour in the lime juice, I threw in 1oz
Drop in 3oz of Caribbean Rum
1.5oz of spiced rum (big fan of really Bad Rum Co.)

Strain into a shaker. Takes time but worth it.
Once ya got the rum infused juice in the shaker add some ice.

Shake it like you're Tom Cruise in Cocktail.

I garnished mine with a fancy orange peel creation. My neighbor thought it looked like bacon.

Pour into martini glass.

02

Quarantini #21 Lillet Tonic

Recipe...

Lillet Blanc is a French aperitif that should be available at your local liquor store.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillet?wprov=sfla1

Lillet Blanc one-on-one with a decent tonic water, and throw in a lemon slice and you'll look and feel like a total cocktail pro.
