Owner and artist of Crystal Coast Brows & Permanent Makeup, Holly Messina is a certified and licensed permanent makeup artist located in Eastern North Carolina. Her journey began after getting her own brows done in 2019. After losing her own brow hair, having them done permanently gave her a boost of self confidence and shortened her daily makeup routine. She knew right then and there that helping others gain the same self confidence and ease into their daily routine was the passion she had been looking for in a career!

Although she is a NC NATIVE, for 18 years she called Charleston, SC home. Her love for the Low Country will always be set deeply rooted in her heart. These days though, the Crystal Coast is where she calls home. In 2019, her and her husband moved their family of four to NC to be close to family while preparing for her husband’s military deployment. It was during that deployment she found Permanent Makeup and never looked back.

Microblading

Full, perfectly shaped eyebrows are by far the biggest beauty trend that is bound to stick around for a long time. Microblading gives you the arches you’ve always wanted, made-to-measure, thick, defined, yet perfectly natural-looking.

Virtually unidentifiable, Microblading is a permanent makeup technique done manually, with a blade consisting of several tiny needles. Thin incisions are made on the skin that look like natural brow hairs. They imitate the length, color, thickness and shape of your actual hairs.

How long do they last? Typically 12-18 months, after which the brows are mostly faded as the pigments are broken down by the body. At that point, you’re welcome to come back in for a color boost appointment.

This service is not best for thin, mature or oily skin types.

This service does require a 6-8 week touch up. At that appointment we fill in any spots where pigment has faded and make any corrections. Anything after the 8 week period will be considered a color boost appointment.

Combo Brows

They look trendy and they are suitable for all skin types!

A combination of the two most popular brow tattoo techniques. Microblading and Powder techniques are used to create combo brows, that look attractive, yet natural, with a hint of powdery effect.

Combo brows are more popular among people who really like the hair stroke look but are not good candidates for microblading on its own. With combo brows, you get hair strokes and some powdery shading which is great for people who have oily skin. Oily skin is not so great for microblading since the hair strokes get blurred after some time.

Combo brows last 1-3 years.

Lash Enhancement

The most subtle and the most sought-after style, since it suits all eye shapes and ages, and it’s appropriate for all occasions. It is done by drawing an extremely thin line that blends into the lashes to create a fuller feminine lash line.

Lip Blush

Anyone who likes wearing lipstick but doesn’t like the hassle of applying it several times a day, this is for you! Also, women who want to add some volume to their lips. The lip tattoo won’t do as much as lip fillers, but it will definitely make your lips look fuller.

When it comes to shape, the lip tattoo can make the lips look fuller by clever color choices and correct some minor asymmetry. As far as color, I like to keep neutrals, pinks and reds.

BROW PRE/POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Very Important stuff here!

BROW PRE-CARE

Permanent Makeup procedures normally require multiple treatment sessions. For the best results, clients will be required to return for at least one re-touch appointment. This will take place 6-8 weeks after the initial procedure. Those with oily skin may require an additional touch up.

Please be aware that color intensity will be significantly darker immediately after the first session and a few days after the initial procedure, but the color will reduce by 30-40% the 7 days following the procedure.

Although numbing cream is used during the procedure, sensitivity or discomfort may still be felt. Skin may be red and/or swollen after the procedure. This will disappear in about 20 minutes after the procedure is finished.

You may wear your normal make up on the day of your procedure
Please do not drink alcohol 24 hours prior to the treatment
Please avoid any blood thinners prior to the appointment ( if permitted by your doctor)
Please do not shape or wax your brows before the procedure. Your technician will shape brows during the procedure
No electrolysis for at least 5 days before the procedure
Botox, AHA products and retinoids should be avoided for 2 weeks prior to the procedure
Exfoliating treatments such as microdermabrasion should not be performed within 2 weeks prior to procedure
Chemical and laser peels should be avoided at least 4 weeks prior to procedure
Patients prone to cold sores/fever blisters should take an anti-viral prior to treatment
Hormone therapies can affect pigmentation and/or cause sensitivity
Avoid tanning 7 days prior to the procedure

Topical Anesthetic Advice
Numbness and discomfort we cannot accept responsibility if the area to be treated does not respond to the numbing cream. Each individual is different according to skin type. Some clients report the area to be completely numb, while others may experience some discomfort.

Avoid permanent makeup if you have the following:
Liver disease - high risk of infection
Pregnancy/Nursing
Comprised skin near brow area
Currently undergoing Chemotherapy/Radiation

BROW POST-CARE

Please follow these instructions for 7-10 days after the procedure to improve and prolong the results of your pmu/cosmetic tattoo.

If you don’t follow these instructions, it can greatly affect your pmu/cosmetic tattoo results!

You will be given a wash to take home to clean the area for the first 7-10 days. This gentle cleanser can be used for as long as you’d like. IT SMELLS AMAZING! You’ll wash the area twice a day, morning and night. Any gentle cleanser will work if not provided.

Next, you will blot the area with blotting sheets or a clean, damp paper towel or cotton round to remove any excess fluids, if necessary. Lymphatic drainage causes scabs which could lift pigment so this blotting process should be done before each application of Aquaphor.

Lastly an Aquaphor product should be applied to the treated area 3-4 times a day during the 7-10 day healing process. This ointment will be used to keep the treated area hydrated. As long as the area is hydrated, we can avoid scabs which will cause pigment lifting. If the pigment lifts, you could be left with no results.

NOTE**
* Brows will be darker 24 hours following the procedure.
* This color will fade 30-40% during the next 7-10 days

Pmu/cosmetic tattoo post-care is very important to the appearance and longevity of your new eyebrows.
Avoid direct water pressure on the treated area. Do not let any lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area during the first 24-48 hours following the procedure.

After 24-48 hours you may shower and wash your face.
Soaps and lotions may be used on the face, but avoid any of these products on or near the treated area for at least 7-10 days.
Please continue to apply ointment for 7 days following the procedure.

During the healing process if you find yourself outside or in a sunny area wear large sunglasses or a hat to cover/shade the treated area.

The following must be avoided during 7- 14 days post- procedure:
-Increased sweating
-Practicing sports
-Hot sauna, hot yoga, hot bath, Jacuzzi, and refrain from swimming in saltwater or chlorinated pools for 14 days
-Sun tanning or salon tanning
-UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading
-Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid on the face or neck
-Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment
-Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris
-No makeup should be applied directly on the area during the healing process
-Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
-Driving in open air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles
-Touching of the eyebrow area except for when rinsing and applying the post-care cream with a cotton swab
-Give at least 14 days after the procedure for any facial treatment including peels.
If you are due to give blood after the procedure, please inform your nurse about the treatment you have had as this might alter the results.
-Please wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting a lot of water on the treated area. During the shower, keep your face away from the showerhead or take a bath.

Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post- procedure. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.

If you have any unexpected problems with the healing of the skin, please contact the service provider immediately via phone or email , to discuss further instructions.

Contact a physician if any signs or symptoms develop such as the following: fever, redness at the site, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, elevated body temperature or any colored discharge from the treated area.
