About Me —

Derrick Cook

1991, an artist was born. As a child, I was always searching for different ways to express myself - first it was drawing, then poetry which turned to music, digital art, videography & now, photography.

As an aspiring rapper, I graduated high school & bought a camera to teach myself videography & produce my own music videos. This lead me to do the same for other musicians & learn photography as well. I became fascinated with how a single photo could tell a story. Capturing a moment & holding it hostage in a frame to preserve a memory - nothing else is like it.

Since a young age, I’ve dealt with depression & anxiety & a loathing for myself - art has helped me cope with these things. Depression is looked at as the dwelling in past & regrets while anxiety is the fear of the unknown in the future & what’s out of our control. Photography, the living in a single moment, remaining mindful of the NOW, has given me a new outlook on life & I wish to share this enlightenment with the world.

I do many different styles of photography in both digital & film formats but portraits are my favorite. While being creative with styling & poses, I hope to shed a new perspective on my clients & subjects to help them see themselves through a different lens (pun intended). We’re often our own worst critic but that outside point of view can sometimes cure this.
