Dear Grandpa, It’s Michael

About Our Project

“Dear Grandpa, It’s Michael” is the real story of Michael, who was diagnosed with Autism at age four, and was told he wouldn’t amount to much because of it. Now, 15 year-old Michael writes a letter to his Grandpa in heaven, detailing the full life he has enjoyed and his hopes for the future.

Our project is a short film that conveys how every child, with the right support, has an opportunity to live a full life. As his latest school project is to write a personal journey about life, Michael begins a letter to his grandpa, and mentions some of the accomplishments and obstacles that have brought him to where he is today.

Every child deserves an opportunity to live the best version of their life, and that will look different for each and every unique situation. Let’s strive in continuing to educate others – from those who have just received a diagnosis, to family, or friends – to never give up, to never stop trying. This is our global community, and our voices and stories need to be heard. One issue we need to speak on is the social safety-net created to nurture and educate children into adulthood, as well as impacts and changes to care, housing, and employment as children reach maturity.

Please join us as we follow Karen and Michael’s journey and celebrate all of his wins together!
