Military Drill Team est. MMXV

Created in 2015, De Lux Drill Team was originally created to expand the education and art that is Military Drill Team for students that wanted to continue after their Elementary Drill Team careers at Wilshire Park ES.

Within it’s first two years, De Lux created a name for itself in the Dance/Competition world that sparked a buzz for more and more generations to come. It expanded beyond Wilshire Park ES alumni and spread across to students all over the Los Angeles area.

After a two year hiatus while Coach Derrick Paris explored other projects, De Lux is back and ready to take storm once again. This year marks the team’s 5 year anniversary.

Coach Derrick Paris is a 24 year old dancer, choreographer and music producer. He started his dance training at the age of seven at Brockton Ave Elementary where he was one of the youngest members to ever join the team under the direction of Coach Rosalyn Madison. Throughout his grade school career, he juggled his dancing, acting and music career while maintaining his school work. He attended VAPA & University High School where he graduated from UHS in 2012. He then went on to Santa Monica College pursuing his Theater Arts and Dance Degrees. At SMC he built a strong dance resume and reputation choreographing and performing in numerous shows and pieces from faculty and guest choreographers. He’s worked with Invertigo Dance Theater, Kybele Dance Theater, Karen McDonald, Debbie Allen, Jae Lee and many more.

Paris was the Captain of Brockton Ave Elem Drill Team until he graduated in 2005, and made a return to the team in 2006. He joined Larry Battle’s Jr. Independent team “Genuine Image”. Upon his 8th grade year at only the age of 12, he got asked to take over and Coach Brockton Elem while Mrs. Madison still directed the team. He continued to coach the team until its final season in 2010. In 2009, he auditioned for Coach Alejandra Torres’ High School Independent Team “Electric Kingdom” where he spent 3 seasons as team member, Co-Captain and Captain of the team.

Following High School, Paris started working at LA’s Best where he coached Wilshire Park Elementary for three seasons, receiving numerous local and state awards. De Lux was finally created in 2015 and it took off until 2017 where he then put it on pause to take an opportunity at TS King MS as the Head Coach. After two strong seasons, Mr. Paris has decided to return to coach De Lux and hopes to take it to newer heights.

Coach Paris currently resides in Inglewood, CA and is now a music producer for NFL/NBA/NHL Pro Dance teams. Paris also assists in choreography for HS and University Competitive Dance teams. He also is a current Dance Major at California State University, Long Beach where he plans on graduating in Spring 2021. He choreographed alongside Debbie Allen for the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics in 2015. He has hopes of opening a De Lux Dance Studio in the future. He also has plans to move to New York and pursue his dance career in the professional and competitive world.

Coach Sarah

Elem Coach

Sarah has been training in Drill Team since 2004 where she was on Micheltorena Elem, TS King MS and Electric Kingdom HS. Her and Coach Paris have led Electric Kingdom together sharing Captainship in 2011. She was previously the Coach of Elem Hip Hop Team: 3-Tiny-3. Some call her Wonder Woman because she juggles her day job, helping out her sister who is currently a De Lux member and being the mom of little Prince Shawn Maxwell. Sarah will be leading our Elementary Team alongside the direction of Coach Paris and we’re extremely excited for her to join us!
