Make Government Positions Less Attractive/Lucrative
Any successful agitation needs clear aims and objectives that are not too broad and have been agreed upon by the general consensus. The focus could be to make government jobs and appointments less lucrative and attractive. Let legal professionals draft an agreement that removes government allowances and places a cap on salaries.
Can we get aspiring senators to sign an agreement agreeing to a large reduction in salary and no allowances? Funds will no longer be made available to them for constituency projects. Reducing their salaries to N5m would free up a lot of money for more things. N1m would be ideal because even the top 10% of private sector workers in Nigeria are struggling to take home that kind of money in terms of salary.
Whoever doesn't sign it won't be considered as a candidate choice by the electorate, regardless of their political affiliation. The people that do are the ones that are really there to or ready serve the people. The people will decide who they want from the available options, no matter how few.
Can legal professionals come together to draft such an agreement? An achievable goal could be getting governors and representatives to sign it and compiling a list of the ones that have for reference in the next elections. Ideally, this would require constitutional reform but the right people need to be in those positions for such a process to even be started.
