What we do

About

Arch Soc is platform for students across all years and programmes to discuss and share ideas around archaeology, be it things related to their course or personal projects and initiatives.

Keep an eye out for lectures, webinars, field schools, excavations and opportunities.

Normally we would hold departmental socials for students to meet the staff, and we have an annual summer ball, but a few ideas for the time being are online quizzes and watch parties looking at trashy films with bad archaeology to make fun of.

We will look to collaborate online this year with other unis and as the situation evolves, we hope to do field trips and explore Durham’s local archaeological features heritage, do outdoors sketching sessions, experimental archaeology and perhaps visit museums too.

Come along to our events and you might discover new areas of research that interest you, and maybe get involved in excavations and projects in anywhere from Roman sites in Britain to the Nile Delta and Jordan. Find out how Erasmus can send you on an exchange in another country. Also upcoming is an online publication where you can get your debut in publishing and talk to specialists in live Q&As.
