About Me

My name is Keren Mukeba. I'm the owner of Embrace It. I am a licensed cosmetologist. Born and raised in DRCongo, I am fluent in French and Lingala. I've been in the U.S. since December 2013.

I first started doing hair as a hobby, but then decided that it was an art form I could call my career. I went to Ogle School in 2020 to pursue my professional career in cosmetology. After graduating from cosmetology school in 2021, I worked as a hairstylist assistant at 2 different salons. Now I’m ready to move on with new adventures! I decided to start my business from scratch. We are looking for clients who are willing to experiment with us, help us grow, take risks and be comfortable in their own skin.

We love what we do. We specialize in waxing/sugaring, hair care, coloring, braiding and styling. All type of textures are WELCOME! We love meeting new people and making everybody feel beautiful and confident. Our passion is building strong connections with our clients and our goal is to make our clients look and feel their best.

I love spending time outdoors – walking/hiking, picnicking, roller skating, biking or gardening – and working out, reading, cooking/baking, watching movies/tv shows, going out, and trying new things/hobbies.

WAXING/SUGARING CARE and POLICY

BEFORE YOUR SUGARING/WAX APPOINTMENT:
🤍Make sure your hair is long enough. The length of your hair should be at least a quarter inch long or the sugar/wax won't have enough hair to grip during the removal process.
🤍If you come for your appointment and have recently shaved, we may not be able to perform the service.
🤍Make sure you’re clean, it will also help your wax go more smoothly. Just like brushing your teeth before a dental exam or cleaning yourself before your annual exam at the gynecologist. Natural oils, sweat, or body lotions can prohibit wax from adhering.
🤍Some people find it is helpful to take Ibuprofen before the appointment.

DURING YOUR SUGARING/WAX APPOINTMENT:
🤍Remind yourself that no one is judging your vulva (seriously).
🤍If you've never gotten a wax before, it’s really not as uncomfortable as it might sound, but it is certainly intimate.
🤍The help goes both ways, you may be asked to help hold your skin in certain places, like your cheeks, so the waxer is able to get every last inch of hair.
🤍Don't hesitate to talk to your waxer about anything before, during or after your appointment.

24 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING:
🤍Avoid exfoliating the sugared/waxed area for at least 48 hours, even if exfoliation is part of your normal routine.
🤍Avoid excessive sweating ( no gym/workout) since your pores are open, and therefore hair follicles may become clogged.
🤍Avoid any kind of friction to the area. Yes, this includes sex! Especially if you just had your bikini area waxed/sugared.
🤍Avoid lotions and moisturizers that include harsh chemicals or fragrances.
🤍Avoid touching the area. Don’t pluck, tweeze or shave your freshly waxed/sugared skin.
🤍Avoid swimming and hot baths for at least a week. Even chlorinated pools and hot tubs can carry bacteria. Take showers instead, running water from the shower will be cleaner than sitting in bath water. It makes you more prone to infection.
🤍Opt for loose clothing. Anything tight-fitting can rub raw spots and irritate your skin. You'll want to give your leggings a break for a few days and stick with maxidresses, flowy pants, or breathable cotton fabrics.

48 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍Exfoliate as needed but with care. Your skin may still be more sensitive than normal.
🤍Protect yourself from the sun using a high quality sunblock.
🤍Avoid lotions and moisturizers that include harsh chemicals or fragrances.
🤍Avoid tanning. The UV light from tanning beds can harm your freshly exfoliated skin.

72 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍Start a daily exfoliation routine with your favorite scrub. Do not scrub too hard.
🤍Moisturize daily using natural products with no additives, preservatives or artificial fragrances.
🤍Once your skin has returned to normal, you can resume your normal skincare routine.

BETWEEN SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍Exfoliate once or twice a week to prevent ingrown hairs, clogged pores, and remove dead skin cells. Be careful not to overexfoliate.
🤍Staying hydrated is key to keeping your skin healthy and moisturized from the inside out.
🤍Use products recommended by your waxer.

EYEBROWS HENNA CARE and POLICY

BEFORE YOUR SUGARING/WAX APPOINTMENT:
🤍There must be no sunless tan/self-tanners used on the skin prior to Henna appointment. This will turn the henna a green or yellow shade.
🤍Do not apply Retin-A, AHA around the brow area for 72 hours before your Henna appointment.
🤍A patch test must be performed 24-48 hours prior to your appointment.
🤍Avoid using any oil-based products on your brows. This can affect the Henna’s ability to adhere to the hair.
🤍Avoid tweezing or waxing your own brows at least 48 hours prior to your appointment because this can remove too much hair, which can affect the final results.

DURING YOUR SUGARING/WAX APPOINTMENT:
🤍Sit back and still, relax and let the brow artist do their job.
🤍Feel free to communicate your preferences or concern with the brow artist so they can create a look that you’ll love.
🤍Don't hesitate to talk to your henna artist
about anything before, during or after your appointment.

24 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING:
🤍Avoid getting their brows wet for 24 hours to allow the henna to fully set.
🤍Avoid activities like swimming pool, sweating or washing the face near the brows.
🤍Avoid using oil-based products on your brows, as this affect the longevity of henna tint.

48 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍You can resume your normal skincare and makeup routine, including using oil-based products on your brows.
🤍Avoid using any harsh exfoliants or scrubs on your brows, as this can affect the longevity of the henna tint.
🤍Be gentle when cleansing your brows and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area.
🤍If you notice any irritation or redness, you should avoid any products on your brows until the irritation subsides.

72 HOURS AFTER SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍You can resume all of your normal activities like swimming pool, sweating or washing the face near the brows.
🤍At this point, the henna tint should be fully set. You can enjoy your new, naturally-looking brows.
🤍If you notice any fading or patchiness after a few days, you can schedule a touch up appointment to refresh the henna tint.

BETWEEN SUGARING/WAXING :
🤍You can use a clear brow gel to shape and define your brows, or a tinted brow gel to add a bit of color and fullness.
🤍You should be gentle when cleansing the brows and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area.
🤍You should schedule regular touch up appointments to keep your brows looking fresh and natural

PREGNANT CLIENTS :
🤍It is generally considered safe for pregnant women to get henna, as the dye is applied externally and does not penetrate the skin.
🤍It’s always a good idea to consult with your doctor or healthcare provider before undergoing any cosmetic treatments, including henna tint. Some doctors may recommend to avoid any certain cosmetic treatment during certain stages of pregnancy.
🤍Some women may be sensitive to certain ingredients or chemicals, and may experience an allergic reaction or other adverse effects.

Q&A

1. What’s sugaring ?
🤍Sugaring is an organic way of removing hair using a sugar paste mixed with lemon juice, water, glycerin and sugar. It’s 100% natural with no chemicals, fragrances or coloring causing no skin irritation. The sugar paste is applied to the skin against the hair growth and removed in the direction of the hair growth.

2. What’s waxing ?
🤍 Waxing is the process of hair removal, using strip wax to effectively remove the hair from the root or let it set and then pull it. The wax is applied to the skin in the direction of the hair growth and removed against the hair growth.

3. Will my hair grow back thicker, darker or heavier?
🤍No, it will not. Waxing/Sugaring removes the hair by the root, often weakening the root in process. If you continue to get sugaring/waxing done regularly, you will actually find that it grows back finer and lighter.

5. What’s more painful? Sugaring or waxing?
🤍The pain you feel depends on your own personal pain tolerance. Sugaring tends to hurt less than waxing does.

6. When is it the right time to get body waxing done?
🤍We suggest at least two full weeks of hair growth (¼” – ⅛”). Be sure to book your next appointment 4-6 weeks out to keep up and maintain that smooth hair-free skin.

7. Is there anything I should do before my appointment?
🤍Make sure the areas you are getting waxed/sugared are clean. If you are someone with high sensitivity, you may want to take an ibuprofen to ease any pains during the waxing/sugaring process. Be sure to communicate with your waxer about any medications that may have a bearing on your treatment. It’s best to stay clear of alcohol and other caffeinated drinks leading up to the wax/sugar. That tends to raise the skin’s sensitivity. Hi
