A List of Helpful Things for me!
How to best support me in recovery
Recovering anorexic edition 😭🙃
>Do these only if you want to!
>Take care of yourself before others!
Checking In
Whether this is calling, texting, or hanging out, these check ins are super important to me. Even if I don't really respond, it lets me know that I have a support network.
Encouragement
Never EVER force me to eat. Unless I am actively dying with low blood sugar, please give me time and space to be ready to eat. The opposite is also true. If I am eating, no comments. I am experiencing extreme hunger a lot of the time and it's terrifying as is.
Safe Foods
Always having these available are a life saver, please try to have them for hang outs or if we plan to meet. I have a difficult time packing food for myself.
Fear Foods
I'm not avoiding these completely but I'm not always going to try to eat them either. I'll never drink juice, sodas, or milkshakes so please don't try. I'll also never eat potato chips, really greasy foods, or most meats. Those are the main things but vegetarian options are generally safer.
Research
Please look into the topic yourself. I am not here to explain. It's hard as is accepting that I was and still am anorexic. My weight does not show how I'm doing mentally.
Outings
This one is such a big thing. I am not perfectly well. I still have to be careful so know that with each outing, you may have to call emergency services. While I don't think it'll happen, it's just something to be aware of.
Other Activities
For sports, skating, dance, and brisk walks are always fun. Otherwise, art and coloring is always a good one. Baking is cool as long as the kitchen is free. For games, as long as they're laid back. I enjoy drives, pets, friends, sleepovers, and spa nights.
