This site outlines the story concept behind the art series Five Ancient Astronauts.

ABOUT THE ART SERIES

Each image in the series is meant to represent an alien life form as well as an indigenous mask. Any of the images, colors, patterns, or textures on their masks reflect whatever environment or dimension they’re traveling in currently.

THE CONCEPT
The concept is about a group of five beings from different worlds in the same Galaxy. They are inter-dimensional time-travelers, existing in the past and in the future simultaneously. The group consists of a leader (or Lead Scientist, a geneticist, a historian, an explorer and a scout. They’re what you or I would call a family, or a team, but they refer to themselves as a unit. Though all are essentially scientists, they have specific roles and designations within the unit.
THE MISSION
Their mission is to learn and accurately document all of the details regarding their own existence (constructing what they call The Map), while correcting any genetic anomalies they encounter. They’re related to humans, making them both ancestor and a type of descendant.
THE MASKS
They wear purposely crafted masks, or face-shields which they believe makes them appear less threatening. The masks themselves record whatever they see and even hint at their personalities. They avoid contact with humans as much as they can and they are relatively peaceful. Also, I should note: they do not have a hive mind — they communicate telepathically, but each individual is autonomous.

NAMES AND ROLES

For the sake of human comfort, they’ve chosen their own names.

AKOKA

Leader / Commander / Head Scientist
Akoka is the unit Lead. He’s cautious about humans, in particular, and very protective of the unit.
GHEZ-QI
GHEZ-QI
Geneticist / Head of Provisions
Ghez-qi serves as a kind of consul (like a First Mate), but in addition to his/her expertise as an inter-species geneticist, he/she supplies the unit’s provisions and helps maintain their ship.
RHAO
RHAO
Historian / Navigator I
Rhao’s expertise is as a kind of galactic historian, knowledgeable about all different varieties of life in the Galaxy of the Five Ancient Astronauts, in addition to those studied during their journey.
Rhao serves as the first Navigator aboard the ship.
KSABI
KSABI
Explorer / Navigator II
Ksabi’s specialty is as an explorer, archiving and cataloguing the newest worlds they land upon or, dimensions they enter. Ksabi serves as the second Navigator aboard the ship.
PANI-GHEL
PANI-GHEL
Scout / Military Engineer
Pani-ghel investigates and scouts out their planetary locations, ensuring the safety of the unit. Pani-ghel also maintains, repairs, or constructs anything additionally needed.
