The mini series
Ghareeb is a series about three generations of women: Mariam and her two daughters, Maya and Aya. After personal rifts for the characters create tension for the family as a whole, they are brought closer to each other and to roots that they feel all but estranged from. Ghareeb is a story about the cultural connections and divides that exist intergenerationally in a first-generation Arab-American matriarchy. It sheds a light on behaviors we've learned that may no longer serve us and what it means to unlearn them in community with each other. It engages themes like intergenerational communication, community, tradition, cultural attitudes towards modern-day activism, workplace dynamics, and personal development.
