Susannah Willey
Cosmetology Student
I’m a student at Aveda Fredric’s Institute in West Chester, Ohio. Originally from West Virginia, I moved to Ohio three years ago and changed my career path. I work at Jungle Red Salon in Miamisburg. Inspiration from those I’ve met in the salon and my creative background led me to do cosmetology. I graduated high school in August of 2018 and began school at AFI in November.
Favorite Summer Babylights —
Little Highlights Go a Long Way
Hairline Babylights
Don’t overthink it! Even a few foils will add a pop of brightness to your color to get you summer ready.
Barely There Balayage
This balayage blended with her natural so well, you can hardly tell she had it colored.
First Highlights
Face framing babylights brought excitement to this clients first day of middle school, without being over the top.

Holy Grail Products
Must Haves
These are my three favorite products for all hair types. They are all easy to use, as I love a low maintenance look.
End Of Summer Rehab
Hair Health
It’s so important to feed your hair the moisture and protein it needs.
After scorching your strands in the summer sun, grab a good mask. Hair conditioning treatments and masks are great to use about twice a week until your hair looks and feels beautiful again.
One of my all time favorites is the Source Essentielle Nourishing Mask.
A little goes a long way! You’ll only need a dime size, as this product packs a punch.

Pureology‘s Clean Volume Mousse
This is a magical mousse. Unlike most, it is not gooey or gloppy, but instead is lightweight and fluffy. I use this to give my hair some grit in order to hold my blowout all day (and then some)
Redken’s Velvet Gelatine
This blowout gel smells amazing! Only a drop of this will speed up your dry time and give your hair amazing shine.
Brazilian Blowout Root Lift
I prefer this product to the usual root lifter because, it is a mist. Applying a couple pumps to the root on either side of the part and the crown will bump up your blowout in no time...and with no mess.
A Personal Post
One Year With My Molly
Celebrating Gotcha Day! Molly has officially been with our family for a year. Molly is a golden doodle, and has a beautiful copper coat. She is still in her puppy stage, and is very energetic. She is basically my third sister.
Our First Day Together
Love at first sight! She matched our excitement to meet her for the first time.

Big Energy & Big Sleeps
Molly always takes a mid morning nap, an afternoon nap, and it’s bedtime by 9. Every other portion of the day is playtime.
Makeup & Me
Keep It Simple
When I do my makeup for work or school, I like to do as little as possible. Personally, I don’t like the feeling of having a lot of makeup on. Additionally, I have false lashes and focus a lot on skincare, so I use makeup as a way to enhance my face rather than a way to fix it.
I have a few favorites that I stick to. I think everyone should have a good concealer, blush, bronzer, and lip gloss. Just those few staples will bring color to your face, cover any blemishes, and add some pizzazz to your lips. Having fewer steps in your makeup routine will make the process so much less stressful and time consuming.

Hot Tool Styling
Prep & Prime
When using hot tools to style your hair, it is so important to prep your hair. Always use a heat protectant! Putting heat on your hair (blow dryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc.) will damage it. Without the use of a heat protectant, your hair doesn’t stand a chance.
I would recommend using a product when wet and when dry. While your hair is wet, using a leave in product will prime your hair for future styling and will make it super soft. My two favorites for prepping and priming my hair are Pureology’s Hydrate Air Dry Cream and Redken’s Iron Shape. You can find a link to the Hydrate Leave In on a previous blog post.
Iron Shape by Redken can be used on wet or dry hair. I prefer to use it as a follow-up to my leave in once my hair is dry. A couple spritzes in each section of hair will protect it from whatever hot tool you’re going to use. The great thing about this product is that it also provides some hold for your style. This would be great for those who are not fans of hair spray or product in general. Another bonus is that it smells great and gives your hair shine.

Graduating Beauty School
I just finished my last days at The Aveda Fredric’s Institute! From November 2018 to November 2019, I’ve worked to complete the program. I’ve since tested and passed Boards to secure my license in cosmetology.
I’m excited to start working as an associate stylist at Jungle Red Salon early 2020.
