Hi, I’m Haley!

Nice to meet you!

I’m a dramaturg! Super simply, that means I work with playwrights on new plays and production teams on finished plays.
I, though, explain my work as being a professional creative best friend. I use dramaturgical expertise - a knowledge of storytelling techniques and research practices - and my best human skills - joy, curiosity, fandom, tenderness, unconditional love and empathy - to creatively problem-solve or evolve different projects. So, in addition to my theatrical work, I have researched and co-written podcasts, dramaturged a department of Dallas City Hall as a 2019 OCA Micro-Residency Recipient, and used my time as a 2019 NNPN Producer-in-Resident to develop community engagement programming and develop online experiences at Kitchen Dog Theater.

I also love curating things, making lists, and connecting people to resources. So much of my work is being inspired to help keep others inspired, so while my formal website serves as my more robust portfolio (I’ll link all of that below!), this little corner of the internet will serve as my mini-blog of things I love and immediate updates about exciting projects. I’m excited to share them with you! Thanks for being here!

NEWEST WORDS: THIS IS A MORTALITY PLAY SET IN AN OFFICE DEPOT

Parallel universes are real and in all of them Office Depots exist and that makes Tina want to die. So why do Karlee and Adrien keep going back to work?... and back... and back again....

Food for thought 🍬🍪🍟

In the early 20th century, a New Orleans newspaper published a letter from the terror of the time, the Axeman of New Orleans, a serial killer preying on the city’s residents. The letter said if residents played jazz all through the night, their household would be safe, so families flocked into jazz clubs or packed around their neighbors’ record players, and listened all through the night. No one was murdered on that night. While it’s unclear if the Axeman wrote the letter or not, I’m thinking about how, even though they were playing jazz to save their lives, what a relief it must have been to have one night of togetherness in the midst of fear. How are Zoom theatre and Instagram live operating in a similar way today?
