Why in the hell did we sell our gorgeous home?

Forever home but not forever location!

For my first blog post I want to start with the first of new beginnings that has started happening in my life ✨

In June of 2022, Jikovey (hubby) and I decided we were going to put our beautiful home on the market. By July, our home was listed. By August, we closed. Yep! We moved…again! To give a little background, we have moved 3 times within a 9 year period. In 2019, we moved to Douglasville, Ga from Alpharetta, GA. We moved into our dream home. Just under 4,000 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, unfinished basement, and sitting on just under 4 acres. Even though we had all of that land we were still in a neighborhood which was a plus for me. The neighborhood was very well maintained and the clubhouse, playground pool and tennis courts were perfect for our growing family. Oh! Let me add that we moved into the same neighborhood as my parents. This will become an important detail later in my story.

So, I know you are wondering, “why did we move?”

As gorgeous as our home was, as perfect as our neighborhood was, it just is not our forever location. Although we had lived in Douglasville previously when we were newlyweds, Douglasville just is not the place that we see our “forever location” being. After living in Alpharetta for so long (7 years to be exact) and moving back to Douglasville in 2019 we quickly realized that some of our desires had changed. Things that were not as important to us back then are now important to us now. We had no hesitation moving back to Douglasville in 2019 because this was basically “home” for both Jikovey and I. After all, we both grew up less than 20 minutes outside of Douglasville. So, it was completely unexpected when we realized our desires and must haves had changed. If we could have literally picked up our dream home and placed it back down in our dream location that would have been perfect! But it doesn’t work that way….

So, now I know you’re wondering, “Where did we move to?”

Before we officially put our house on the market, there were a few different options on where we were thinking on going next. Augusta and back to Alpharetta were different options in Georgia. But places out of state such as California, Indiana, and North Carolina was all seriously discussed and considered by Jikovey and I. Honestly, these places are not completely off the table just yet. So where did we move to? We are still in Douglasville……for now at least! We moved just 2 miles around the corner into my parents home! I told you this would be an important detail in my story! My parents have a gorgeous 5 bedroom 4 bathroom home with an unfinished basement. Plenty of space for my family and I. We are still trying to decide where our forever location is and we want to wait and see what the housing market will do.

While we’re waiting things out we have decided to invest in my parents home and finish the basement! Instead of making the decision to rent a home while we wait out the market we wanted add value and equity into my parents home. This is a win-win for both my parents and Jikovey and I!!

We have started the process on completing the basement and hope to be finished in the next month or so. After it’s completed, my parents will gain about an extra 1300 square feet of completed space. The basement will have 2 bedrooms, a theater, full bathroom and a kitchenette. Let me just say that I have enjoyed every part of the design aspect of this basement completion! My desire is to either build our forever home from the ground up or completely renovate a home.

So will we move back to Alpharetta? Will we move to a new city? Will we move out of state? We have no idea! But what we do know is that we are happy with the decision that we made to put our home on the market and move. We are happy that we are investing in family. Our kids are excited and overjoyed to be spending their days with their grandparents. We know that everything happens for a reason and God will reveal to us our next move!

Until next time!

All love,
Ashley NiCole ❤️
