District Attorney Weir,

My name is ___________. I live in ________ but I am shocked enough about the recent events in Jefferson County to write in.

I am demanding justice for Lakhwant Singh, an elderly Sikh man who was assaulted at his own store as part of a hate crime on April 29, 2020. This racially motivated attack resulted in significant injuries including broken ribs, internal bleeding, and spinal fractures with several witnesses in the area clearly proving the guilt of Eric Breeman.

Lakhwant Singh is an honourable American citizen, business owner, and father. I am appreciative that the attacker was arrested, but justice will not be served until the court sees this case for what is: a vicious hate crime.

Unfortunately, while conviction is a great first step, it is not nearly enough—racially-motivated crimes like these are not isolated incidents. Racial prejudice is deeply rooted in the criminal justice system, and it takes systemic change to decrease the prevalence of racially-motivated violence on civilians.

Please keep this in mind as you preside over the Lakhwant Singh case, and take this to heart as you continue to serve as District Attorney of Jefferson County.

I appreciate your consideration of these topics, and trust that you and the jury will do the right thing.

Sincerely,
