HELLO, MY NAME IS SPAZ

Laurie Maravila (aka, SPAZ) is a Singapore-based cultural worker from Manila,
Philippines. What started out as a graffiti practice evolved into examining the utility and
necessity of art in the struggle for social change.
A consistent recipient of the Lasale Colege of the Arts Scholarship, SPAZ was also the
first Southeast Asian to clinch the Takifuji International Art Prize in 2013. Her education
and involvement with the arts has led to archiving and research through THE
SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT, an initiative that seeks to establish and document graffiti and
street art as a cultural expression by and for the people in the South East Asian region.
She had also co-founded REBEL DAUGHTERS, a movement aimed to harness the power
of women through graffiti and urban arts; as wel as to address issues affecting working
class women within and outside of said discipline. She is currently working on the HURU
HARA project and organized under Tambisan sa Sining, a cultural mass organization
based in the Philippines.
