about.

“hi, name is cynthia. nice to meet you.”

Cynthia Francillon is a 34-year-old storyteller born and raised in the city of Brooklyn, NY, and currently residing in Los Angeles, CA.

A descendant of Haitian parents and a self prescribed maladaptive daydreamer, Cynthia believes storytelling + love are the threads that keep us going. Since a child, she has been enticed by adventure in self discovery, and as she grew into an adult and developed rejuvenation, pride, and solace in being an Afro-Caribbean Black woman, found a sort of intrigue with her community’s reliance on kinship and tenderness to aid in said discoveries. But also, what the lack thereof could shadow us with.

Across the mediums of fiction short stories, nonfictional essays, poetry, short/TV/feature film screenplays, stage + on-camera performance, and audio podcasting... Across genres of romance, magical realism, drama, and comedy… Cynthia asks and tries to answer the questions, “Who are we when no one is watching? Do we like those parts in the shadows? Why do we run from the tenderness we cannot and shouldn’t do without?”

Her stories feature Black girls/women/femmes exploring their growth as individuals through acts of intimacy with either themselves and/or their relationships with other women, whether it be familial, platonic, or romantic.

And on her downtime, you can find her at a jazz club, people watching at a coffee shop, jamming to an album she wish she wasn’t so late on, and daydreaming.

my career thread, where and how I learned collaborative media project managing, producing, and story developing

Director/Producer of Lisa Durden’s “VP Kamala Harris: She Ready!” Podcast (Sept 2024-Nov 2024)

Reunited with Lisa Durden, freelance journalist for notable media programs such as ABC’s 20/20, to produce a livestream weekly podcast airing on YouTube that documented the efforts of Kamala Harris’s sudden and historical campaign to the White House. Week after week, Lisa held round table discussions with political experts, social commentators, and everyday people that provided layers of illustrated dimension to what Kamala Harris represents, how her win could be our win, and the ways we can pay close attention to the (mis)advantages of our nation’s trajectory.

Here, I acted as story producer, director, livestream camera operator, and graphic designer.

Showrunner’s Assistant for Blumhouse & Amazon Studios’s “Scarpetta” (Nov 2023-May 2024)

Acting as the assistant to executive producer and showrunner, Liz Sarnoff (“Barry”, “Happy!”, “Lost”) I had the pleasure of being a part of the 8-person writer’s room for the forensics drama, “Scarpetta” starring (and EP’d by) Nicole Kidman & Jamie Lee Curtis, based on the long-running NYT Best Selling novel series “Scarpetta,” by Patricia Cornwell.

Aside from admin duties such as scheduling, stakeholder communication, data organization, and invoice tracking, I had the opportunity to gather and organize factual forensics data, aid in maintaining authenticity for their marginalized characters, and provide notes on story flow across episodes.

Coordinator of Feature Films Development at Blumhouse (May 2022-Nov 2023)

A few months fresh after moving to Los Angeles from New Orleans, I became the coordinator for the President, EVP, and VP of feature films development at Blumhouse, the notable film & TV production company that produces low budget, high box office return horror films (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Get Out).

Including administrative duties such as scheduling/travel coordination, stakeholder communications, and document preparation, I got to read and write coverage on horror scripts from prospective and/or emerging horror writers, sit in on pitch meetings, mentor seasonal interns, lead planning for rough cut screenings, and present projects by Black writers/directors for acquisition or fresh IP.

Director/Producer for Meet Cute Originals (Feb 2020-May 2023)

Right before the peak of podcasting, I began producing original narrative podcast series for Meet Cute, an audio production company making short form rom-com audio stories.

Here, I’ve had the pleasure of gathering a production team to cast, rehearse, direct/record, and review post production for fun and heart clutching stories ranging from fifteen minute episodes to 90-minute audio features. My series’s at Meet Cute have starred Julianne Hough (“Dancing with the Stars”, “Rock of Ages”) and Owen Thiele (“Dollface”, “Overcompensating”), increased Meet Cute’s listenership by 111%, had a premiere at Outfest Film Festival ‘22 as a part of their newly added Podcast category, and scored a deal with Delta Airlines, where my series GREEN MOUNTAIN is available to stream on Delta flights.

See Through (2025)

LOGLINE: When Laura's sister gifts her a boudoir photoshoot for her birthday, what begins as an exercise in vulnerability transforms into an intoxicating connection with the captivating photographer who teaches her to embrace the beauty of being seen.

〰️

Written, directed, and starring myself, this short film is the first project I’m building after awakening from a six-year creative pause.

Moved by my own journey of body acceptance and the self discovery in practicing the art of taking up space, this story was born.

To Move With Image (2025)

Celebrating the art of filmmaking while establishing a sustainable practice that honors the craft and creates consistent opportunities to tell visually stories, this Patreon channel leans away from the spectacle of Hollywood and towards the often niche and elaborate exploration of independent film, particularly from marginalized filmmakers.

Serving as the host and curator, we embrace what the industry has made us to feel is inaccessible: motion picture. Watching/dissecting micro/low budget indie darlings, short films, music videos, and text that gets under the belly of how to make film with everything you’ve got, this Patreon reminds filmmakers why they love movies and that anyone can make them.

You don’t need permission, you need audacity.

We are not short on resources, we are short on imagination/community.

Be moved to move with image.
