About Us & Our Vision

Building community and providing support with you in mind.

In January 2023, Courtney Hall founded Indy Melanated Birthworker Collective (IMBC) to unify birthworkers of color, with a vision to create a space for us to network, build relationships within the collective and perinatal providers around Indianapolis, and support our community's needs together as a unit. All starting from a pitch-in, birthworkers from around the city came together soley to connect with one another and spread awareness about doulas of color in our city. We found that we all believe that Black & Brown families deserve the right to experience positive birth outcomes, make informed decisions, feel empowered during labor, and receive adequate postpartum care. This was enough for us to move forward in efforts to be a part of positive change in Indianapolis. Thus, Indy Melanated Birthworker Collective was created!

Since coming together, IMBC has hosted a Doula Self Care & Spa Day, attended Melanin in May, Indy's Juneteenth at Military Park, Nourish To Flourish, Melamama's Community Resource Fair, and Mom Cave's Community Baby Shower. IMBC meets monthly amongst members to touch base, plans to host professional development workshops for doulas within and outside of the collective, and create workshops for new and expecting families centered around perinatal topics.
