What is Psychological Health & Safety?

Have you ever raised your hand to ask a question and then lowered it before someone could ask you to speak?

If you were asked why you chose not to ask your question, what would you say?

Most often it’s because you didn’t feel safe (mentally, emotionally, and/or physically) and decided it wasn’t worth the risk.

When you feel mentally, emotionally, and physically safe, you behave differently than when you don’t feel safe.

We are wired to belong. We are designed for connection. And the very thing we desire most can also be the very thing that causes deep harm.

In the simplest sense, creating a culture of psychological health and safety, whether in your personal life or in your workplace, means taking that first step in learning what you can do to help others feel safe to raise their hand AND ask their question.
