Jr.’s Helping Hands

Hello, my name is Jamesha Baker and I am the owner of Jr's Helping Hands here in Louisville, Kentucky. Jr's Helping Hands is a child development center for children of preschool age only. Jr's Helping Hands prepares toddlers for kindergarten and much more beyond that! There is a need for a development center of this kind here in Louisville, especially one that will be affordable and service middle class families. A lot of lower to middle class families do not have access to resources such as these because of costs and location and a lot of the services that are offered in this city are not offered by black owned businesses.

I currently hold a Bachelor's in Sociology, and I am working on my master's degree. I have worked for the Board of Education for the last 7 years, and I am ready to branch off and start my own program. I have been a tutor for the last 5 years as well and would love to open my own center to implement the style of learning that has been proven to be beneficial for children's success in this community. The school district that I currently work for has been struggling with low test scores in elementary school, I am ready to close that gap by getting children into my program so that they can experience the feeling of being uniquely tutored by their instructor!

My development center stands out from the rest because I personalize my teaching to individually service each of my students. We also focus on areas outside of the basic social skills and learning that take place at traditional preschools. I have made a very structured lesson plan for my students that teaches them math, science and reading beyond the level expected for a toddler as well as forms of therapy and meditation. I have taught my current student how to express their feelings in healthy ways, which can be difficult for a toddler but with the correct instruction, it has proven to be effective!
