Katie Mermaid✨
Hello!! My name is Katie, and my core values are Communication, Compassion, and Family. We moved to Surf City from San Diego in 2021, and I love the slower pace and small beach town vibes.
I was always active growing up in Virginia, playing soccer in high school and college, and even took Yoga as an elective my sophomore year. I was a bartender all through college, graduating with a BA in History and eventually starting a job working Proposals at a large government contracting firm. My job moved me out to San Diego, where I fell in love with the beach, the chill vibes and met my husband Tom. We eventually ended up living in Leucadia, and where yoga is everywhere! I took classes at a bunch of different studios with a lot of different teachers, and this helped me really connect to my practice, and to myself in the process. I participated in a yoga-for-trade program at a corporate studio, and even took a 25-hour SUP YTT with The Floating Yogis. I really wanted to take a 200-hour YTT program, but could never find one that fit into my schedule.
A few years, another baby, a LOT of work, and a pandemic later, I was ready for something new. I took to social media. I found Nichole and The Traveling Yoga Studio on Instagram, started taking classes, and fell in love with Nichole, the studio and the teachers. Everything just fit, and when I found out that she was offering a teacher training, I knew I had to do it. I graduated from YTT in December of 2020, and not only did I feel amazing connections with the other humans in my training, but also I felt an amazing connection with myself.
I loved my training so much that I dove in and completed my 300-hour YTT, also with Nichole at The Traveling Yoga Studio, and it was such a transformative experience! I learned so much more about myself as a yoga teacher, and am able to weave my knowledge and training into my classes with intention and mindfulness.
I knew I wanted to teach classes in person, but didn’t know where to start. One day, I walked into Chill Pretty and met Amber. We instantly connected, and when she asked me if I wanted to teach classes at the Boutique, I jumped at the chance! Chill Pretty embodies the chill, comforting, friendly vibes that I try to bring into my yoga classes, and it’s been such an amazing year! Teaching classes in the store, on the beach, and even doing pop-ups in the community has been so much fun and I’ve made some of the best connections! CP even sells some of the cutest/comfiest yoga clothes ever!
I am so full of gratitude for all of the good that yoga has brought into my life, which is why I decided to become a yoga teacher. I love guiding others through the physical Asana as well as the breathwork! I can’t wait to connect and share my joy with all of you!
