About

“It’s Me, Hi 👋 I’m the Doula, it’s Me”

I am the mother of two boys - 8 and 5. I have experienced labour up until 9cm, I have experienced an emergency caesarean, I have experienced a planned caesarean, I have experienced expressing breast milk, bottle feeding and I have experienced breastfeeding. I have experienced two very different pregnancy journeys and believe that sharing this knowledge with other expectant mothers can provide comfort and support.

What made me want to become a Doula?
My postpartum period after both of our boys were born, was quite difficult for me. I was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition known as Parsonage Turner Syndrome which took 2 years to recover from each time and with this came quite debilitating postpartum anxiety. I feel extremely blessed to have my two happy and healthy boys, and while I would love to have another baby, I have made the decision to not put myself or my family through that again.
The reason I became a Doula is so that I can help other Mums and their families through what is undoubtedly an incredible time, but also not always such an easy one. We all just need a little kindness and a little help sometimes.

I have grown up in this area - from Goolgowi, to Hillston, to Griffith, with that comes a knowledge of our local area and services. Prior to commencing my Doula studies, I worked in the Disability Employment sector for 14 years. This was such a rewarding part of my career where I was able to build a strong work ethic, build empathy and learn vital support skills.

Well, that’s enough from me for now! Please help to spread the word about Doula supports for women and their families in our area!

Thank you

What is a Doula?

‘Mothering the Mother’

A Doula is a trained, non-medical, non-judgemental, support person and companion for both you and your partner during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

As your Doula, I offer continuity of care, in the true sense of the word and can provide a completely personalised support package tailored to the needs of you and your family.

My goal is to ensure that you feel confident about your options and able to make informed choices about your birth experience and postpartum journey. Always striving for a birth story that starts with a smile.

Antenatal Support

Antenatal Support is focused on education and non-biased information regarding your options and what to expect both during and after your birth.

Our antenatal sessions are one-on-one, conducted in the comfort of your own home. After which we develop your Birth Preferences / Map, ready to hand directly to your Midwives in preparation for your labour and birth.

Some of the topics we will explore include:
● The different stages of labour
● Pain relief options, both medicated and non-medicated
● Labour positions
● What to expect with vaginal birth and caesarean birth
● Education regarding interventions
● Rebozo techniques
● Massage
● Acupressure
● Aromatherapy – Essential oils
● Visualisation
● Affirmations
● Breathing techniques

And so much more!!

Birth Support

“A Doula does not come flying in with a superhero cape on, but rather she helps you to find yours” – Renee Adair, Australian Doula College

Doulas do not replace a woman’s partner (if she has one), they work together to help her have the best birth experience she can and to implement her birth preferences that we have planned antenatally together.

A Doula helps to ‘Hold Space’ during labour, holding space requires a Doula to be present and attentive, to listen deeply, and to respect the Mothers autonomy and choices. Setting aside her own situation, opinions, and assumptions in order to serve others fully in their wishes.

I can attend the entirety of your labour and birth, whether this is 1hr or 30hrs, I do not change shifts, I am a continuity of care entirely present for you.

I can remain with you during the ‘Golden Hours’ until you are ready to become comfortable in your own family bubble.

Postpartum Support

As your Postpartum Doula I will provide a completely personalised, practical, in-home support based on your families most pressing needs on that day -

● I can care for your baby and other siblings while you have a shower, or catch up on some sleep.

● We can sit, talk, debrief, cry if we want to, and have a cup of tea to help promote emotional well-being.

● I can provide feeding reassurance and guidance, whether this is breast or bottle.

● I can provide nourishment in the form of home cooked meals and help in the form of light cleaning duties.

● Doula’s autonomously perform the tasks that will be most helpful to a new family without being asked.

Placenta Remedies

● Can increase breast milk production

● Increased energy levels despite disturbed sleep

In addition to capsules other remedies I am offering include tinctures, salves and keepsakes.

• Beautiful and informative photos of your placenta

Testimonials

Spreading the word about the benefits of hiring Kylie the Doula

“Our experience with Kylie was a pleasure. I initially approached Kylie on Instagram; after finding her content (as a first time mum) very informative and was curious about newly explored placenta encapsulation process. She promptly responded and we arranged a meet and greet where all our questions were answered thoroughly and she guided us through the abundance of options open to us - all completely obligation free and very casual.

We decided on placenta encapsulation and Kylie has been with us every step of the way! We had homely meetings at her lovely office space, continual contact through labour and after delivery (including multiple visits during our hospital stay) and six weeks postpartum, she is still offering her support and guidance.

Kylie collected our placenta from hospital and returned not even 48 hours later with the finished product and some other sentimental keepsakes, keeping us updated with photos and explaining the whole process step by step.

The capsules have definitely helped during our ‘hormonal comedown’ and enabled us to cruise through the baby blue period with levelheadedness and a slight increase in milk supply.

We recommend Kylie to any mum, particularly first timers, and will be involving her in our next pregnancy! 🥰”

- Emma

“Kylie was extremely supportive of my decisions during the lead up to my birth and invaluable during my immediate postpartum both in hospital and at home!

My two older kids absolutely love her, she did an amazing job caring for us all while we welcomed our third baby.

I highly recommend Kylie for parents at any stage in their journey 💙”

- Shara

“I had such an incredible experience with Kylie. From my first interaction with Kylie, I knew I was in good hands. She was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, competent, caring and always providing me with plenty of resources and information leading up to labour and delivery to help prepare and soothe anxiety.
She was always quick to respond to my questions which I really appreciated.

Throughout my pregnancy and after she regularly checked in on me and encouraged me to ask questions and sent many helpful resources. She guided me through the experience, giving me the information I needed to make my own decisions with no judgement on my choices.

And also she was present the entire time when my labour was so long. She was there for me during the early postpartum weeks when I was exhausted and stressed.

I truly don’t think I could have gotten through it without her.
Kylie even took some priceless pictures that we will treasure forever.
Words cannot describe how grateful I am to her for helping me have an empowering birth experience.

If you’re looking for an additional partner in your birthing journey, I strongly recommend Kylie!”

- Lin

“We cannot thank Kylie enough for the postpartum support she provided our family.

She quickly formed a special bond with our toddler, and helped him adjust to his new little sister.

On her visits she always helped around the house and made sure the family had a nutritious meal that day.

She was a genuinely special part of those first few weeks making it just a little easier. 🫶”

“You can do all the research you like but you can never really be prepared for how those first few days and weeks will be with a newborn. You can’t read about how you’ll react to the sleep deprivation, hormones, high emotions, lack of brain power, new responsibilities and love!

Midwives will give you heaps of phone numbers and websites to call for advice after baby arrives however your brain is not functioning how it used to and it is very overwhelming knowing when and who to call.

You will have a million quick questions that don’t require a GP visit. Husbands/partners vary in how helpful they can be however they will never truly understand what it’s like being in the depths of postnatal overwhelm.

You get your one, maybe two visits from the community health nurse however it’s nenough. There is a gap in postnatal support especially in this country. You do need professional support who can provide answers and push you in the right direction with breastreassurance, quick answers to your ‘silly questions’.

I personally would have benefited from postnatal doula support. You don’t know how valuable this would be until you’ve lived it. I needed someone to guide me in breastfeeding, ask questions to or even just brainstorm with someone on things like how to care for a blocked tear ducked, poo colour changes, formula, taking care of making a few appointments, when to take my painkillers, someone to talk to my husband and help him understand his roll and just general reassurance that I was going a good job.”
