La Huerta Farm
A small, organic farm in Beverly MA run by Yohanna Moreno and Shane Hurley
We are beginning farmers who started growing with our grandparents as kids, Yohanna in Chile, and Shane in Massachusetts. We started growing together in the community garden in Revere. This year we were able to lease some land with the New Entry Sustainable Farming Project!
We are a family, farming in a small 0.25 acre plot. Our aim is to use farming practices that reduce our destructive impact on the soil and grow varieties that are important to Latino culture. We use no-till / soil disturbance methods for growing biologically diverse food.
This first year of our operation we are farming part-time, so our efforts are super focused on a small, diverse CSA that can please our core supporters while we are developing our farming muscles. We will also be selling to the food hub run by New Entry.
Goals:
Going forward, we hope to attend farmers markets all around boston. Our dream is to grow more specialty herbs and veggies from central and south america that are hard to find for the dense populations of Latin Americans living near the city.
