Search for the perfect skincare routine

Growing up I’ve always had lovely, clear skin. If I got one little pimple on my face it was on with the spot treatment, followed by a borderline obsession every time I looked in the mirror until that pesky pimple was gone. Turns out a lot of that was nothing to do with my skincare routine and everything to do with my contraceptive pill. As soon as I came off it and then added anti-depressants into the mix my skin went CRAZY. After road testing a LOT of cleansers, serums, oils, masks, and moisturisers here is my current morning and night skincare routine. I have combination skin which means I get very oily on my t-zone yet dry and flaky on my chin and eye area. These products have made a huge difference to my combo skin as well as acne, hyperpigmentation and complexion.

Aspect Purastat 5 Cleanser

The Purastat 5 Cleanser detoxifies and gently exfoliates my skin without stripping it and leaving it dry. I squirt two pumps of this cleanser onto my Foreo Luna Mini 2, a silicone, vibrating cleansing brush, and glide the device in circular motions on my face. The Foreo has an inbuilt timer to indicate when it’s time to move to certain parts of the face. The benefit of using both the cleanser and Foreo is it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated. The pulsations allow the skincare products used after cleansing to absorb more effectively into the skin.

Aspect Extreme C 20

Next up are these is my vitamin c serum. I know, Aspect is pricey, I’m lucky because my sister is a dermal therapist and gets half price on all Aspect products. But it’s not just about the brand, it’s the ingredients and how well they are formulated in the serum. Vitamin c is great for fading pigmentation and creating an even tone.

Aspect Extreme B17

After waiting for a minute or so for the Extreme C 20 serum to dry I then layer the Extreme B 17 on top. Vitamin b, also known as niacinamide, decongests the skin, helps reduce the number of breakouts, and helps control the oil without drying out the skin.

Weleda Skin Food Light

I then follow my serums with a moisturiser. The light formulation is a perfect day moisturiser as it doesn’t leave my skin greasy or shiny. Instead, Weleda Skin Food Light leaves my skin feeling soft, looking dewy, and has a delicious tropical scent that smells amazing!

Mecca To Save Face Superscreen SPF50+

Finally, the most important step in the morning routine… SPF! I love Mecca To Save Face Superscreen because it’s formulated to wear under make up, but also has a nice matte finish on its own. It’s slightly tinted, so it doesn’t leave a white cast over your face and most importantly it’s SPF50+. According to the cancer council SPF50+ filters out 98% of UVB radiation when applied liberally and regularly. What I love most about my morning skincare routine is that when using SPF and vitamin c together it enhances the fight against free radicals which cause aging, an uneven skin tone, and inflammation.

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser

I always make sure to double cleanse at night. The first cleanse is to remove the dirt, sunscreen, and makeup. The second cleanse is to properly clean the face and let the ingredients do the work. I squeeze a dollop of the Squalane Cleanser into my palms and quickly rub my hands together. The heat will turn the cleanser into an oil. I then apply the oil to my face and move the product in a circular motion. I then remove the product with a damp posh cloth.

COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser

I then use the COSRX Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser for my second cleanse. I apply this product to damp skin and repeat the circular motion on my face and remove it with the same posh cloth. Salicylic acid works particularly well with vitamin b as these ingredients target breakouts, reduce the appearance of pores, control the production of oil, and increase elasticity in the skin. I then follow my second cleanse with the Aspect Extreme B17 serum.

Weleda Skin Food

My final step is moisturiser. I use Weleda Skin Food. It's a lot thicker than the light formulation, so it protects my skin and absorbs overnight, so my skin is soft and replenished when I wake up in the morning.

My favourite gyms and studios on ClassPass

I have been using ClassPass for almost 3 years now. In that time, I have made over 200 reservations and visited over 20 different gyms and fitness studios. ClassPass is a subscription-based app that allows you to visit any participating gym. I live in Balaclava, but work as a contractor all over Melbourne. These are the gyms that I keep going back to.

@classpassausnz

Fitness First

I was very excited when Fitness First joined ClassPass as I love doing the Les Mills classes. The St Kilda club also has a pool! All you have to do is book an Open Gym class, and voila! you have access to a heated 25m pool. The best thing about Fitness First is that there are clubs everywhere! I also like to go in and use the gym equipment after uni as there are three clubs to choose from, just in the city!

KX Pilates

KX Pilates is another great studio that not only has franchises all over Melbourne but all over the country. When I visit my home in Tasmania I don't have to pause my membership, I can just visit the closest KX studio. I often work in the mornings, and the afternoons and have the middle of the days off. No matter where I'm working I can always find a KX that's close to my work and at a convenient time that suits me. Not to mention, the workout is fantastic! A dynamic reformer pilates workout is a great way to tone up without aggrevating your joints.

Upstate Studios

I always feel extremely lux when I visit Upstate Studios. Not only are the studios so aesthetically pleasing to look at their heated mat pilates classes are my absolute favourite. I leave their classes dripping in sweat and extremely satisifed with my workout.

Barry’s Bootcamp

Barry's Bootcamp can be on the boujee side, so this might be a workout for a special occasion or a ”treat yo'self" moment. These classes are an experience! The workout consists of swapping between treadmill running and functional weight training. The music is pumping, the lights are low when it's time to knuckle down, and then they are flashing when the workout gets going. To enhance your experience you can pre-order a protein shake that is freshly made and waiting for you after you finish the class. How cool is that?!

Salt Pilates

Finally, we have a lovely little boutique studio, Salt Pilates.
Their style of reformer is nice and slow. This workout enables you to focus on each muscle group to improve your stability. It's a relaxing environment, and I like to book into this studio when I need a stress reliever or I'm looking for an active recovery.
