A GUIDE TO DARK ACADEMIA
WHAT IS A DARK ACADEMIA?
Dark academia is an aesthetic inspired by old literature.
Color scheme is mostly made out of neutral, warm and brown tones. Colours like dark green, burgundy and beige/caramel are an absolute must.
SO, YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT?
The whole aesthetic revolves around an idea of being a rebeliouss young adult that is searching for a meaning in life. Highly educated, quick witted, ironic, poetic.. a hopless romantic - those are some epithets used to describe an academic. Motives of melanchony, irony, murder, justice, growing up and facing the reality of our world are just some of many that describe this aesthetic and literature that inspired it.
BOOKS TO READ:
Some books that inspired this aesthetic are: ,,A picture of Dorian Grey", ,,If we were villains", ,,The secret History"....
Tweed blazers, coats, white shirts, plaid skirts, sweaters, oxfords..
Some accessories are thin framed glasses, hair ribbons, berrets, simple jewelry and hand watches.
MOVIES TO WATCH:
,,Kill your darlings", ,,Dead poet society"...
IN SUMMARY, DARK ACADEMIA AESTHETIC IS:
Falling asleep while studying in an old library, dim library lights, smoke of cigarettes, old dusty books, running in the rain, having meaningfull debates, drinking hot tea, boys and girls with messy hairs, late and starry nights, thunder storms, writing poems, riding horses, going to an old university...
A latin poem
This is an old latin poem that used to be sung by students of the academia.
I needed to learn this at school and i really liked it and thought it's really in that dark academia style. So i thought about sharing some parts that i know:
Juvenes dum sumus;
Post icundum iuventutem,
Post molestam senectutem
Nos habebit humus.
[Let us therefore rejoice,
While we are young;
After our youth,
After a troublesome old age
The ground will hold us.]
Vita nostra brevis est,
Venit mors velociter,
Rapit nos atrociter;
[Our life is brief,
It will shortly end;
Death comes quickly,
Cruelly snatches us;
No-one is spared.]
Vivat membrum quodlibet,
Vivat membra quaelibet;
Semper sint in flore!
[Long live the university,
Long live the teachers,
Long live each male student,
Long live each female student;
May they always flourish!]
