My Story:
Hello, and thank you for taking a moment to learn a little about me. My name is Shae, and my journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and transformation—rooted in the raw energy of extreme sports and the unbreakable spirit that comes from facing life’s most unexpected challenges.
I grew up in the Wenatchee Valley, where the beauty of the landscape and the adrenaline of extreme sports shaped my world. From motocross to snowmobiling and snowboarding, these pursuits were not just hobbies, but a way of life. Whether I was pushing myself to the limits as a competitor or simply enjoying the freedom of these thrilling sports, my love for the rush of extreme sports has remained constant—something I cherish deeply to this day.
My professional journey began at Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort, in Wenatchee. I started humbly in lift operations, and over time, I had the privilege of growing into the role of Terrain Park Assistant Manager. It was during this time that I was fortunate enough to be part of an incredible team that expanded Mission Ridge’s terrain parks, laying the groundwork for competitive events that continue to inspire athletes to this day. That experience gave me the foundation to see how passion for sports can create community and lasting impact.
I then, I built a career in sports retail, working as a warehouse and sales manager at our local Sports and Fitness Outlet, part of the PlayItAgain Sports network. The role allowed me to travel throughout the Pacific Northwest, managing our Ski Swap program, and in the process, I forged deep connections within the snow sports industry. I met many of my heroes along the way, even sharing the slopes with some of them—an experience that remains one of the most rewarding chapters of my career.
As I grew older, I felt the pull of new challenges and ventured into the heavy construction industry, working as a general laborer. The work was demanding, but it was profoundly rewarding. The most fulfilling project I worked on was the construction of Leavenworth's KOA, where we built something lasting—a place that would serve families, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts for years to come. It was a reminder of how deeply I connect with the landscape and community around me.
However, my path took a dramatic turn when I was diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy, a rare kidney disease that ultimately led to end-stage renal failure. This diagnosis didn’t just threaten my health—it reshaped my entire life. The realization that I needed a kidney transplant left me with a sense of urgency, but it also gave me the rare opportunity to slow down and refocus on what truly mattered.
With the unwavering support of my wife, I embarked on a new chapter—focusing on my health, my passions, and my future. I used this time to immerse myself in snowboarding and dirt biking—sports that served as my therapy during one of the most difficult times of my life. As the world around me grappled with the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic, I made the decision to pursue a long-held dream: earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, with a specialization in Sports Business and a minor in Digital Marketing.
While navigating the complexities of my transplant and health complications, I remained determined. I graduated in 2023, an accomplishment that was as much about resilience as it was about academic achievement. During my studies, I worked seasonally as a terrain park attendant, staying closely connected to the snow sports community I love. It was a reminder that no matter where life took me, my passion for the snow and the outdoors would always be my anchor.
The birth of my son in 2023 added yet another layer of fulfillment to my life, and I cherished every moment with him. However, life never slows down, and soon after, I found myself working as a Construction Project Manager for a luxury home builder in Cle Elum, Washington. This role allowed me to broaden my professional skill set while working in a community deeply inspired by the outdoor sports and recreation I hold dear. It was a full-circle moment that allowed me to merge my love for the outdoors with my desire to contribute to the growth of the area.
But as with many things in life, a new challenge arose. In November 2024, I suffered a motocross accident that left me with a broken spine and compressed spinal cord. The accident left me paralyzed, a reminder of how quickly life can change. What followed was an intense period of rehabilitation—both inpatient and outpatient—where I fought every day to regain strength and mobility. There were moments of doubt, but I never lost sight of the person I had always been: determined, resilient, and unyielding in my pursuit of a life well-lived.
After months of recovery, I was back on my feet, stronger than ever. I secured a role as a Preconstruction Assistant with HiLines Homes in Yakima, Washington. While the position was short-lived due to the housing market downturn, the experience taught me invaluable lessons in a rapidly changing industry.
Though I was laid off, I know this is simply a bump in the road. I’ve always believed that challenges are opportunities for growth, and this moment is no different. I’m using this time to refocus my professional journey toward what I’ve always been most passionate about: the world of sports. Whether it’s through an internship or a full-time position, I’m eager to bring my experience, drive, and enthusiasm back to a community that inspires me every day.
My story is one of highs and lows, triumphs and setbacks, but through it all, I’ve learned that it’s the passion you bring to every moment that defines your path. I’m excited for the next chapter and the opportunities to grow, contribute, and be part of something bigger than myself.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let’s create something extraordinary together.
