We are Lussa

Lussa is a new upcoming traditional band, consisting of four members.

During their time studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the band discovered their natural connection and formed Lussa in 2023. Inspired by the Latin word for “Light” their style is bright, joyous, fresh and their arrangements draw inspiration from their different traditional upbringings from across the Globe.

Biography

Members: Bailey McCoo, Elisabet McConnell, Eneko Lane and Naomi Priestnall

Bailey McCoo is a pianist from Glasgow. His cultivating passion for traditional music began when he started to explore different musical styles in high school, where he developed a valuable connection with the genre. Bailey’s appreciation for Scottish trad and folk music continued to expand as he became inspired by influential styles of tradition piano playing which helped him to created his own distinct sound. Now studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Bailey strives to portray an exciting and enthusiastic ambience when playing to support the immersive atmosphere he creates.

Elisabet McConnell is a Fiddler from the United States of America. Relocating in 2015, she moved to Dundee, Scotland. She developed a profound appreciation for Scottish folk at an early age where she was introduced to a Ceilidh band in Florida by her parents. It was this early introduction where Elisabet fell in love with the beauty, history, and richness of the genre. Elisabet grew up playing classical, jazz, rumba and bluegrass, seamlessly striving to incorporate their diverse influences to create a distinctive style. Elisabet expanded her musical career by performing at the 2022 Trad Awards, National Mòd, Celtic Connections, toured across Europe and the Middle East and is now currently studying at the Royal Conservatorie of Scotland, hoping to develop her musicality further.

Eneko Lane is a London-born composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the folk and traditional music genres. Growing up in a musical household, he quickly developed a deep love for traditional and celtic music. Previously to Lussa, he recorded and released a solo album called Musical Traveler in 2022, a mix of traditional tunes and songs as well as his own compositions. He has also been the All Britain Banjo and Mandolin Champion in the Fleadh competitions (2021, 2022, and 2023) as well as winning the Write the World International Songwriting Competition in 2022. Now happily studying music in Glasgow with a main focus on tenor guitar, he also plays banjo, mandolin, fiddle, bouzouki, bodhrán and harmonica as well as singing.

Fiddler Naomi Priestnall is an upcoming traditional artist from Ayrshire, who currently studies in Glasgow. Naomi is an enthusiastic, charismatic, performer who captures the essence of traditional music while infusing it with her own compelling fresh sound. Her distinctive style has been shaped by her musical background in both classical and traditional, and her versatility as a musician has allowed her to explore many genres and styles. Naomi has performed on prestigious stages both home and abroad, for Celtic Connections, COP26, and in Japan & the USA.
