Embodied Support beyond the binaries
Majak Qigong offers embodied support through coaching, bodywork, facilitation, and practice for all bodies.
My work is focused on somatic and energetic practices in service of deepening your relationship to body and building awareness, supporting you in moving towards the shape you desire for your life.
Emphasizing a process of moving beyond the binaries and normative expectations that are so heavily imposed on us, my primary focus is on working with Trans, Queer, and Gender Nonconforming people towards embodying dignity, empowering autonomy, and uplifting expression. I offer practice for people of all identities towards moving beyond the binaries that limit us and from disembodiment to holistic embodiment and self liberation.
About Me
T.T. Kooken
Hi 👋 I'm T.T., and Majak Qigong is my practice. Here is where I share a bit about myself, including qualifications and identities I hold.
I'm a white-bodied Non-binary Trans person, and I use they/them pronouns. I'm a co-parent of a 5 year old, who is being raised in a gender-creative environment. I have a long history of moving my body in creative ways, stretching back to my experience in youth with dance, theater, and performing arts. I also have a long history of working with language and narrative, and am a published poet, screenwriter, and playwright. Creative practice is immersed in all my work.
I am a certified Somatic Coach and Bodyworker with training via the Strozzi Institute, as well as undergoing supplemental trainings around consent, neurodiversity, and cultural experience in somatics.
I am a certified medical-based Qigong instructor and energyworker, with training in various lineages including a primary focus in the teachings of Long White Cloud Qigong. I also hold the rank of Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Aikido with training primarily from Nola Aikido located in New Orleans, as well as teachers from around the world.
In keeping with my long history in dance and performance, I often undergo formal & informal trainings in various forms of movement, improvisation, somatic awareness, and more. I have experience in floorwork, animal flow, wudang, rhythmanalysis, breathwork and meditation, many of which are incorporated into the other modalities I've learned.
I place a heavy emphasis on consent and cocreation in my coaching work. I practice anti-racism and uplift Trans perspectives. I also am primarily process-oriented and invite potential clients to deepen into their own rhythms, processes, and values, even if, and especially if those values are in conflict with our social norms.
I am an animist and spiritual ancestral practitioner in my own life, with reverence for all beyond-the-human. I don't facilitate this work for others but will always share my stories and hold space for your experiences.
In Somatic coaching, I work with folks 1-on-1 in conversation, guided practice, energy work, and bodywork to deepen their relationship to Soma. I hold an expansive definition of Soma as the expression of ourselves through body, movement, relationship, speech, emotion, and action, which is deeply interwoven with our environment and cultural background.
My work is support-work, for the sake of empowering people towards a deeper sense of how they are shaped in their lives, what their learned behaviours, emotional reactions, and patterns are, and how to foster their own transformation towards a more genuine and expansive self-expression. Somatics is inherently Relational, and I also focus heavily on how one can transform in the relationships that are most important to them.
Services
Just some of the ways you can work with me!
Somatic Coaching
Coaching is a co-creative relationship supporting clients towards embodying their values, transforming in the ways they desire, and integrating practices that serve them on their life journey. Coaching will often involve conversation, curiosity, presence, and physical practice in equal measure.
In Somatic coaching we are invited to bring our whole selves forward, to dignify even the most difficult parts, and grow in the ways we desire.
Somatic Bodywork
Somatic Bodywork is a hands-on practice in support of coaching clients, or as one-off sessions. Typically consists of an explorative conversation, followed by a session involving breathwork, tissue work and energy work. Bodywork supports deep openings in the body, releasing of holding patterns, and reorganizing energy and shape.
Somatic Consultation
In a consult relationship, a client could bring in any specific embodiment / healing / physical questions or needs, and I would devise practices that serve you in those specific needs.
Consultation often necessitates equal parts teaching, coaching, and assessments.
Somatic Practice
In the realm of 'pure practice' I play the role of private (or small group) teacher. I will devise a practice class for you based on a primary consultation around your desires, integrating my cross-modality knowledge of embodiment and movement practice.
In Somatic Practice I tend to facilitate the same or similar practices session-to-session, to cultivate rhythm and consistency.
