About

Mariah Nablo

Hi my name is Mariah Nablo! I am an entrepreneur, environmentalist, and nature enthusiast! I am a graduate of Allegheny College, c/o 2022, with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. I have always been passionate about serving the community and caring for the environment.

When I was 7 years old, my journey as a life-long environmental activist began. Watching the Dian Fossey tribute “Gorillas in the Mist”, I had an instant spark of imagination to save the gorillas in the Congo! How you ask? By collecting cell-phones and other electronics to stop mining in the Congo, and therefore, the destruction of the gorillas habitat.

This would lead me to dedicate my life and education to learning about the various environmental justice issues that pose a threat to not only wildlife but to the communities and people living within our world.

I am spending my time this year serving the community of Pittsburgh through PULSE, a fellowship dedicated to providing young adults with leadership and service experience in the nonprofit community! I am currently serving at the University of Pittsburgh through the Office of PittServes as their Alternative Spring Break Coordinator. I get to work closely with community partners as well as students, to plan and facilitate service learning trips at the local, national, and international levels! This year Pitt students will have the opportunity to serve in the Galapagos, State of Tennessee, and various parts of the City of Pittsburgh.

My goal is to start my own nonprofit in sustainable development/design by transforming cities across the country through food forestry. This will allow us to work alongside the communities facing the most detrimental impacts of climate change, poverty, and food insecurity by creating a surplus of self-sustaining produce, feeding communities for centuries to come!
