Evidence based Mind Body Spirit Offerings

Evidence based Mind Body Spirit
offerings lies at the heart of the modalities I offer. Evidence based Mind Body Spirit offerings means attuning to the bodies wisdom to help guide and inform our work. I take what I have learned from professional trainings, my intuition, and also from my own personal work, education, and research in modalities that align with who I am such as;

• Somatic Experiencing®
• Tension Stress Trauma Release (TRE ®)
• Yoga

And informed in

• Polyvegal theory
• Attachment theory
• Spirituality
• Health at every size
• Body positive
• Trauma informed
• EFT tapping
• Essential Oils

I am not a psychotherapist, which means I do not offer diagnosis or provide therapy. Instead, I work with the whole person, mind body and spirit. I believe we are more than our labels or diagnoses. Our bodies have had to learn how to suppress, manage, or be on high alert in order to survive due to our woundings. It is possible to shift out of these states.

Somatic Experiencing®

Somatic Experiencing® is a trauma healing modality that allows us to begin to get in touch with healing at the nervous system level. Somatic experiencing offers a gentle approach that focuses on building resources we might not have had access to in the depths of our pain and trauma. When we are given the opportunity to get in touch with our own natural resources (through our felt sense, through our bodies) we remind our nervous system and our bodies that we are safe. For many people who have experienced trauma, the capacity to feel emotions has become limited. This means that our bodies have had to create blocks in order to manage and survive. Unfortunately, these management strategies may now
be getting in the way of our day to day. Being able to increase our resilience and our capacity to hold both ends of the spectrum, the good and the bad, can be extremely liberating. It can also help us identify what brings purpose and meaning to life.

Tension Stress Trauma Release (TRE®)

Tension Stress and Trauma Release Exercise also known as TRE® is a body based healing modality that was created to help release deep muscular patterns that have been stored in the body as a result of trauma. When we hear the word trauma, it may cause us to think, “Hmm i’ve never experienced trauma before. I have lived a pretty normal life”.
The reality is, none of us can live in this world unscathed from trauma. Anything that has overwhelmed our nervous system has been registered as trauma in our muscles and nervous system. When our nervous system feels overwhelmed, or feels like it is not supported, or does not have the resources to cope with something, it goes into a state of defense. The body produces a lot of energy in hopes to mobilize and keep us safe. When the mobilization is impeded in any way, that energy is not able to fully be released, and our muscles remain in a contracted state. By allowing and helping these muscles release, our system is better able to regulate, and can come down from that highly charged state. We are able to create space for new muscular patterns. TRE® can help us feel more calm, grounded, and present. It can also help with chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, as well as mental cognition. I will guide you through these exercises and hold space for you as your body releases any stagnant energy and begins to return to a place of equilibrium.

Essential Oils

Engaging with our 5 senses can have a tremendous impact on our nervous system. Our sense of smell has the fastest pathway to the brain. Essential oils can become great tools and great allies in our lives. We can create rituals around them, and utilize them to become more grounded throughout the day or to help us sleep at night. I use certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils in my personal life. If you would like to learn more about oils or would like to incorporate them into our work together let me know.

About Me

Welcome to my mobile website.
My name is Mayra Soto.
I have been called to the healing arts for as long as I can remember.
I have an eclectic background which started shortly after I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2011.
I began working in mental health in 2012 as a mental health technician at an eating disorder recovery center.
Since then, I have worked in residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care offering evidence based mind, body, spirit modalities.
I was trained as a yoga teacher, receiving my RTY-200 certification in 2016. I went on to receive various trauma informed yoga trainings, including Eat Breathe Thrive, and organization geared towards helping people struggling with eating disorders heal through connection to their bodies. I became a Certified TRE® Provider in 2018 and began SE™ training that same year. I became a Provisional Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner in 2021 and became SEP this summer 2023.
I continue to grow as a professional and individual by being involved with SEI, as an Assistant for the Somatic Experiencing® professional trainings. I assist at the Beginning and Intermediate level and am an approved personal session provider for the Beginning level.
At my core I am human, I love learning about myself and the world around me. My curiosity about healing began from a sensing or knowing that trauma was stored in my body, and that words might not have been able to work through it.
I dedicated many years to receiving professional trainings, but I also made my own healing and growth a priority. I have had the pleasure of working with various energy healers, shamans, Chinese Medicine practitioners, and practitioners trained in modalities such as NARM, DARe, and SE™. My personal work has allowed to deepen my capacity for compassion and allowed me to hold greater space for the individuals I work with.
I hope to continue to pay it forward and be an ally on your journey as many have done for me.

Polyvegal theory

We can feel more empowered when we learn about our nervous system.

The Autonomic nervous system allows us to have key reactions in our lives and controls involuntary actions such as heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and digestion.

It has three primary states which enable our survival.

Social engagement
Fight or Flight
Freeze shut down

Each state has its own somatic signature, sensations, emotions, & behaviors.

We also have mixed states:

Play- social engagement + fight or flight (sports/dance)
Stillness- social engagement + shutdown (cuddles/meditation)
Fawn- Fight or flight + shutdown (autopilot/appeasement)

Can you begin to track where you spend most of your time?

Polyvegal theory

Safety cues vs danger cues move us in and out of these states.

Internal Cues
Danger cues: negative self talk, shame stories, pain
Safety cues: positive self talk, belonging stories, pleasure

Environmental Cues
Danger cues: extreme weather, overwork, food & housing insecurity, climate stress, systemic oppression, fire, death
Safety cues: clean air & water, safe housing, food security, meaningful work, bodily autonomy, equal rights

Relational Cues
Danger cues: interpersonal violence, shaming, unfair criticism, bullying, gaslighting, rejection, loneliness
Safety cues: acceptance, presumption of competence, emotional validation, compassionate touch, genuine care

We each have our own cues

Can you begin to track how you are feeling and what is influencing the way you are feeling (identify safety cues vs danger cues).
