The Craters of the Moon Lava Field spreads across 618 square miles (1,601 km2) and is the largest mostly Holocene-aged basaltic lava field in the contiguous United States. The Monument and Preserve contain more than 25 volcanic cones, including outstanding examples of spatter cones. It is said to resemble the surface of the moon

Bruneau Dunes State Park boasts the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America with a peak rising 470 feet above the surrounding desert floor. Explore the dunes in your hiking boots or rent a sand board from the Visitor Center, but off-road vehicles are only permitted on the main road. You can also fish for bluegill in the lakes at the foot of the dune; unlock the mystery of the desert with a breathtaking hike or horseback ride; plan a group picnic or visit the Bruneau Dunes Observatory and gaze at the night sky through the Observatory's collection of telescopes.

Silver City is one of Idaho’s few old mining towns left. There is also a ghost town nearby.

Silver City is about a two-hour drive from Boise. But the road into the mountain town is not maintained in the winter months and is only officially open beginning Memorial Day weekend. Its a 20-mile drive off Highway 78, south of Murphy.

Twin Falls is known as a gateway to Snake River Canyon, which lies just to the north. At the canyon’s eastern end, Shoshone Falls cascades over a broad series of rocks. Trails along the canyon rim lead to the towering Perrine Bridge.

Equus simplicidens, is the first true one toed horse. It's the park's most famous fossil but we have fossil evidence of over two hundred different species. From saber-toothed cat, mastodon, bear, camel, and ground sloth, to smaller animals like rodents and frogs, the scientific study of Pliocene fossils is the key to Hagerman.
