Mina was born in Afghanistan, and grew up in Germany in a home filled with men, surrounded by a culture where women are told who to be, what to do, who to marry, how to behave and so much more. She suffered through being extremely controlled by her brother who stopped at nothing to keep her under his authority. Threatened by physical and verbal abuse, she stayed quiet and useful, taking care of her father and 3 brothers from the age of 10 until she was 22 and representing everything a woman ought to be in her culture.

Until the day she decided she’d had enough, and took steps towards her freedom - freedom to be the beautiful person she is today. Mina has shared her story with me in hopes that it can bring hope to women who have been through similar events and to show all women that they are not alone, and no matter what they are fighting through, they can get through it.
